I echo the sentiments of Brian and Wayne expressed below. My fond reflection of Gary date back to the late 1940's when Gary was Mr. Everything at Riverview Community Club. To this day I vividly remember his treating a few of his playground hockey team to a nip and coke at the Salisbury House on Cordyn Ave after a game at Cresentwood C C. The juke box in the background was playing Vaughn Monroe's Ballerina....how does one remember such a trivial event....Gary made us feel special!! I only wish all kids could have special moments in their life that they will fondly remember 60+ years from now. Rest in peace, Gary! - Posted by: John Rendall (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2015

I know that I speak, also, for my parents, Obie and Jessie, my sister, Brenda, and of course my brother, Don, all whom have passed before Garry. I could not agree more with Wayne Stewart's comments about Garry and Riverview C.C. On behalf of all of our family, and I am sure 100's of others from the Riverview, Lord Roberts area, thank you Garry, and your family, for "loaning" him to us for countless hours, from canteen to coaching, from shovelling to caring.Your family must be very proud. My early life at about 11 was when I first met Garry and we started to talk about hockey and baseball. I had just moved from Calgary so he immediately wanted me to start coming to Riverview Community Club. That was the start of me getting interested in Hockey, Baseball and Football. When I think back I guess it was Garry that got me interested in coaching later on. He was a great mentor and I owed a lot to him in my career in hockey and football. I hope River view Community Club realizes what he did for them over his many years of faithfull and loyal service. There will never be another Garry and many, many of kids like myself are sorry he has left us. He probably will be coaching again. God bless. - Posted by: Wayne & Joan Stewart (A very long and happy friendship with Garry. I even knew Gary before Dorthy did. That is a long time) on: Jun 13, 2015
