STAN BARTA March 17, 1943 - July 1, 2015 It is with the saddest of hearts that we announce the very sudden and unexpected passing of our Dad, Stan Barta, on July 1 at the age of 72. Our Dad was predeceased by his father Stanley, mother Julia, sister Mary and just recently, his beloved and loyal canine companion Dexter. He leaves behind his loving wife Christine of 45 years, children: Corry (Rick), Blaire (Henry), Robert (Shelly) and Heather (Jared). About 47 or so years ago, he was quickly swept off his feet by a very special school teacher from Hazelridge newly assigned to teach in Hadashville. As with everything he did in life, he worked hard and succeeded in winning her heart and her hand. His life was further fulfilled when they had four children who all grew up to cherish their Dad and watch him build a solid life in Hadashville. Dad learned to fly at a young age and became a passionate bush pilot. Among many aircraft that he flew, Dad had a particular love of flying Norseman and Beaver float planes. He ultimately purchased his own J3 and then a Piper SuperCub, which we all had many wonderful adventures in. Dad had an entrepreneurial flair which, over the years included owning the Prawda Shell Gas Station, wild rice harvesting, outfitting, and running the well known "Barta's Bait Shop". He farmed Christmas trees, ran a dozing business, and held his timber quota for the last couple of decades. Dad, over his life, was also a foreman with Fison's Horticulture, worked with Trans Canada Pipelines and Midwest Drilling. YES. He was always working. Dad was the hardest working man we have known. But, even with all that work, he also found time to play. He played hard too. Dad played a mean guitar and when we were young, would strum away and sing to us his favorite songs. He loved to head out with his partner Dexter on metal detecting adventures. After a full day of fighting swampy trails, mosquitoes and bull flies, they would return with their treasures. But Dad would stay up late, with tired Dexter asleep at his feet, and examined every little detail of every little thing he found, excited to tell us all about the rusty relics he collected. Dad loved to hunt and fish; especially with family and friends. He loved road trips. As most of us know, one of his greatest passions in life were antiques that led him and Mom out on their gallivanting excursions. All of the paths he took in his adventures brought him to meet many new people who became lifelong friends. Every one of you were so very important to him. Dad, you are the most genuine, honest and true man we know. Your generosity knows no bounds. You were taken from us way too soon. A celebration of Dad's life is being held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hadashville Recreational Centre. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hadashville, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in our Dad's memory to STARS Air Ambulance at www.stars.ca or 1-855-516-4848. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

  • My sincerest condolences to both you, Christine, and your family. One of my fondest childhood memories is when my father took me to see Stan's plane and he was kind enough to take me up for a tour of the Hadashville country side. It was so exciting for me being so young. Both you and Stan have been so kind to me through the years, my heart goes out to you at this very sad time. - Posted by: Linda Berg (nee Dawydiuk) (Family friend) on: Jul 04, 2015

  • Christine and family, please accept my condolences , I am saddened and shocked to hear of Stan's passing. We go back a long time, all the way to your time spent at Lac Seul Airways. Since then I haven't really seen Stan that often except at the gun shows that we both happened to get to.I always found Stan interesting to talk to and of course very knowledgable about old guns, particularly Winchesters. Any dealings I had with Stan were very good, his honesty irreproachable. I will miss him. Ned - Posted by: Ned Graber (Friend and fellow gun nut.) on: Jul 04, 2015

  • To my friend Blaire and the rest of Stan's family, please accept my condolences on this humongous loss in your lives. I have very fond memories of our many stops at Barta's Bait Shop on our way to fish in the Whiteshell or Ontario. We bought our live minnows there and Christine never bothered to count how many she was selling us. A dozen was definitely way more than the 12 advertized. :) I bought my first fishing rod from your bait shop. Be strong everyone! :) - Posted by: Andre (Friend of Blaire's and loyal customer of Barta's Bait Shop) on: Jul 04, 2015
