JOSEPHINE (JOSIE) FIELD (nee ZABROCKI) Peacefully, on July 6, 2015 at Holy Family Home, Josie was called home by her Lord at the age of 95 years. Josie was born October 20, 1919 in Winnipeg, the fifth child of William and Antonia Zabrocki. She attended Lord Nelson School. She married the love of her life, Frank Field in 1940 and soon welcomed their daughter Shirley Ann. Josie worked at Shores Candy, then at Rondel Awning, and finally at Empire Drugs. But Josie's life's work, what she was most proud of, was being Baba to her grandsons; first Michael in 1973, then David in 1975. Baba never passed up a chance to spend time with her grandsons. She tirelessly woke up early five days a week to take two buses all the way from her home in Garden City to the family's home in Southdale to babysit. One thing Baba looked forward to every week was preparing Sunday lunch, where, unfailingly, after church the whole family would gather. Her meatballs with mushroom gravy were legendary. Baba and Frank's house became a second home to Michael and David, as they would go there every day after school until their mom and dad would get home from work. The boys moved in upstairs to help look after Baba and their grandfather Frank in 2001 when his health began to fail. Now it was Baba's turn to enjoy her grandsons' cooking. She so appreciated having someone to cook for her and help her when Frank completed his earthly journey in 2003. In 2003, Baba was blessed when David married Tamara and Mike married Cheryl to add two granddaughters to the family. Baba was overjoyed when she got to meet her great-grandchildren: Joshua in 2005, Isaac in 2008, and Benny in 2011. Visits from them would bring the biggest smile to her face, and she'd always ask when they were coming for a visit. Fiercely independent, Baba enjoyed still living in her own home until 2008 when failing health meant a move to an apartment without stairs, and finally to Holy Family Home in 2011. There Baba looked forward to playing bingo and listening to musical performances as well as visits from her daughter Shirley and family, especially her great-grandchildren. Josie was predeceased by her parents William (1932) and Antonia (1961), her brothers Steve and George, her sister Frances, husband Frank (2003), and her daughter Shirley (2015). She is survived by her sisters Anne Guly and Olga Tymchyzn, son-in-law Joe Lisowski, grandsons Michael (Cheryl) Lisowski, and David (Tamara) Lisowski, along with great-grandsons Joshua, Isaac and Benny Lisowski. Special thanks to the staff of Holy Family Home, who provided Baba with such great care in her final years and to the staff of Wheelchair Service of Manitoba and Holy Care Transit who made sure Baba could attend as many family gatherings as possible. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Josie's name to the Lubov Foundation, designated to Holy Family Home, the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice. Would like to express condolences to Shirley and family --- Josie was a person with a lot of humor and neat stories. My parents (Mike and Helen Yaremko) knew Josie and Frank for many many yrs and Josie and my mother Helen and all their friends would meet at Prosvita Hall for the Friday bingos which they all loved. also remember Josie's sister Auntie Anne Guly & Uncle Joe Guly and their son Ron --- yrs and yrs have passed but have very fond memories of the Field and Guly families. Mom also worked at Empire Drugs along with Josie' Lee Daptil, Myrna,Olga Yacyna Ivan (the owner and Pharmacist) --- those were good times --- again sending good wishes to the families and may Josie rest in love and peace with the Good Lord - Posted by: carol Messer (friend) on: Jul 08, 2015
