EVELYN MARILYN SEIDA
Date of Passing: Jul 02, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN MARILYN SEIDA (nee SHAW) 1944 - 2015 On July 2, with her family by her side, Evelyn gave up her battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at age 70. Left to remember her is her husband of 50 years, Otto Seida; her daughter Tracey (Todd); her son Chris (Cynthia); grandchildren, Rob and Hunter; sister Barbara and many other family and friends. Evelyn was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to parents, Leonard and Jessie Shaw, who moved their family to a little white house on Broder Street in Regina soon after. Evelyn met Otto at a high school dance, and married a couple of years later in 1964. They moved to Winnipeg in 1971, where they raised their family in East Kildonan. Evelyn liked to try new things, and over her career, had many occupations. She first worked as a typesetter for a print shop, and then in the art department at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She then returned to school to pursue her dream of becoming a journalist, and graduated from the Creative Communications program at Red River College in 1988. After graduation, Evelyn started writing for a few small newspapers, and eventually became the communications director for the Manitoba Society of Seniors. She left that position a few years later to pursue her dream of starting her own newspaper, which she named Vitality, a lifestyle journal for baby boomers. After several years of publishing her paper, Evelyn opened a small art gallery that she named The Shaw Gallery on William Avenue in Winnipeg. Evelyn loved running her little gallery, and Otto often said that she was her own best customer. Evelyn retired with Otto to the town of Pinawa, Manitoba, where they made many friends, especially in the Pinawa Lions Club, the Eastern Music Concert Association, and the Pinawa 50+ club. It was Evelyn's wish that her many family and friends be thanked for their kindness and generosity during her lifetime and illness. She also wanted to thank the nurses and staff at the Pinawa Hospital, who were very good to her and her family during her days in palliative care. Evelyn was very much loved, and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn's memory to The Pinawa Lions Club, the Pinawa Health Auxiliary or the charity of your choice. Evelyn's family would like to invite friends to celebrate her life at a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, Manitoba, with a reception to follow.
