Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER PETER PUTTAERT May 25, 1926 - July 9, 2015 It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Alexander Peter Puttaert, on July 9, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gord (Linda), Douglas (Cynthia); his daughters Maureen (Greg) and Donna (Glen); his nine grandchildren, Daria, Larissa, Brett, Michael, Brittney, Ryan, Trevor, Lucas and Cassandra and three great-grandchildren Keaton, Malcolm and Quinn. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, parents, Charles and Collette Puttaert, and brothers, George and Raymond. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was in his early years that Dad learned the value of integrity, hard work, perseverance and dedication to family. These are qualities he carried his entire life. Upon graduation from high school in 1943 at the age of 17, Dad joined the Navy. He followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers who were already serving with the Canadian Forces in Europe. In 1945, he met his future wife, Helen, at the Winnipeg Beach Dance Hall while on leave from the Navy. After the war, Dad returned to Winnipeg to continue his education. He attended the Angus School of Commerce and the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Course. In 1946, he started his career with Canada Packers. After 41 years with the company he retired from his position as Manager of the Processed Meats Department. Dad and Helen were married on September 10, 1948 and made their home in Winnipeg. They were married 67 years. Family was very important to Dad. He worked hard to provide for his family. Like his father he was a do it yourself type of man. He always had ongoing projects around his home, and at his Falcon Lake cottage. He was even making plans last week. He has left a wonderful legacy to his family through his beloved Falcon Lake Cottage and his life endeavours. He especially enjoyed family times that included many great summer holidays at Clear Lake, Rushing River, and Falcon Lake and winter trips to Florida and Mexico. Another one of his great enjoyments was fishing expeditions with son, Doug, family, and his Canada Packers co-workers. He was a wonderful father and husband. His family will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace, Dad. We love you. Thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Health Sciences Center and Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Dr. Lowden, his family physician, for your longtime care of Dad. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home #1 Highway East at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our deepest condolences to all of you from the Dubois family. My Dad and Alex were very close in their youth, and joined the navy together. (Their mothers, Colette and Catherine, were sisters and also very close.) I know they kept in touch regularly until quite recently and enjoyed their correspondence. - Posted by: Jack Dubois (son of Alex's first cousin Fred Dubois) on: Jul 14, 2015
