JULITA MARY FRANCISCA PERERA October 4, 1939 - July 12, 2015 After a lengthy battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Julita Mary Francisca Perera on July 12, 2015. Julita was born October 4, 1939 in Munnakkara, Negombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), fourth child to Stephen and Theresa Peries. Julita was predeceased by her husband Cyril, brother Adolphus, sister Blancy and her parents. She will be missed and remembered by her brothers, Jerry (Rose), Castus (Leela) and Erick (Dayani); by her sister Concelia (Felician); by her sons, Dexter and Guy; daughter-in-law Jeanine; grandchildren, Ryan, Keenan, Megan and many nieces, nephews and friends. She received her education at Ave Maria Convent in Negombo. After completing her studies, she joined the postal service in Negombo as a telephone operator. She was married to Cyril in 1965 and they immigrated to Canada in 1968. She worked accounting jobs at Southland Corporation, Joy Manufacturing and spent most of her career at The Prolific Group, where she remained until she retired. Over the years, Julita and Cyril helped many people from Sri Lanka immigrate to Canada. She was a very active member of the church and community. She was an avid volunteer of the Friends of the Assiniboine Conservatory. She sang in the church choir and was a dedicated volunteer of the Catholic Women's League. She was always involved in some kind of service, whether it was preparing food to be served at Immaculate Conception, making items for the craft and bake sales, or sewing, quilting, crocheting or knitting items to donate to the less fortunate. She was always a family oriented, kind hearted lady. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, whether they were taking vacations together, praying together, playing cards or on numerous camping trips. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren, travelling to see them at every opportunity and speaking with them daily. She was a beautiful lady with a heart of gold and will be missed dearly. Thank you to all the family and friends that have helped Julita over the last two years. She had an amazing amount of support whether it was bringing her meals, driving her to and from her appointments or just visiting with her. She truly appreciated everything everyone did for her and loved the company more than you will ever know. Thank you to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and Health Sciences Centre for taking care of her while she was there for the last two months. Prayers will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 4588 Roblin Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:00 a.m., also at the church. Entombment to follow at Assumption Chapel Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. • Julita was such a lovely, sincere, lady. I knew her through the parish. She was always willing to help out in any "jobs" she could - be it knitting, craft & bake sale, baking, praying, etc. She had such a warm, welcoming smile on her face. May she find peace eternal with Christ Our Saviour! My sympathies to her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. - Posted by: Mary Bibik (Acting President of CWL @ OLPH parish) (Friend in the sisterhood of Christ!) on: Jul 16, 2015

  • Will always remember Julita telling me how she was stranded in Paris with her baby on the way to Canada, for three days, due to a strike. In Canada, nobody knew where she was and in Sri Lanka, nobody knew where she was. - Posted by: Josie Wasney (Friend at Villa) on: Jul 16, 2015
