ELFRIEDE S. PETERS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister, Elfriede Susanne Peters (nee Toews), on the morning of July 10, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents Rev. Abraham H. and Martha Toews; husband Henry Peters; brother Henry H. Toews; sisters Hannah, Ingvelde, and Ida; stepdaughter Tena Wiebe; and sons-in-law, Dave Hamm and Art Wiebe. Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Edith A. Toews and Dr. Helen A. Toews; nephew Paul Toews; stepchildren Henry Peters (Irene), Frieda Schmidt (John), Charlotte Klassen (Neil); grandchildren Ingrid Hamm (Peter), Jennifer Schmidt, Sandra Falk (Barry), Paul Hamm (Eleanor), Nelson Klassen (Arlene), Darren Klassen (Rachel), Kyle Peters (Kim) and Jared Peters (Janine); 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elfriede was born on February 19, 1918, in Blumenort, Southern Russia. The name being chosen because peace (Friede) had been declared at the end of the First World War. She had a happy childhood until revolution destroyed their home. She emigrated from Russia to Manitoba, Canada, with her parents in 1925. She received her elementary education, mainly in one room schools in rural Manitoba. Later, when the family moved to Winnipeg, she was able to complete her education and become a nurse. She married Henry Peters in 1962, and acquired a ready-made family of three daughters and one son. They enjoyed many happy times on family gatherings and camping trips until Henry's death in 1991. Elfriede was baptized on the confession of her faith and was accepted into the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church in 1944. After her marriage she transferred to Central and later to Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church where she remained until her death. Family and Faith were most important to her. She loved traveling, gardening, sewing and handicrafts. She embroidered many Petit Point pictures and wall hangings which she gifted to all her family. We wish to extend a special thanks to granddaughter Jennifer and her dog Daisy for their constant, loving attention and also her niece Kathy Ewert, who brightened Elfriede's last few years with loving help and care. We also acknowledge the visits and help of Charlotte Redekopp and neighbours Joe and Leona Moder. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Donations may be made in Elfriede's memory to MCC or charity of your choice.

Mit Gruß Christian Bethke - Posted by: Christian Bethke () on: Feb 22, 2017
