ALBANO (DE) AGUIAR Peacefully on July 15, 2015, at the Grace General Hospital, Mr. Albano (De) Aguiar passed away at the age of 90. Albano was born on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 in search of a better life for his family. He worked at many jobs during his life in Canada but retired from CN Rail where he had worked as a carman at Symington Yards in Transcona. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Eva and husband Jack; his son Jorge and wife Gail along with four grandchildren, Christina and husband Owen, Bobby and wife Mandy, Kristopher, and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren Alexander, Addison and Bennett; a brother Cristovam and family in Lisbon, Portugal, a sister Luisa Vieira and family in Fall River, Massachusetts, a brother-in-law Noe Soares and family on Sao Miguel Island, and numerous relatives and friends throughout Canada, the USA and Portugal. Dad had many interests including gardening, making wine, playing crib and visiting his home in the Azores during the harsh Canadian winters. He loved cheering on his favourite sports teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Benfica Soccer Club of Lisbon. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his four grandchildren and he enjoyed getting together with friends and family to talk about life in the old country. Prayers will be said on Thursday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital 5th floor, as well as the staff at the Assiniboine Links Assisted Living facility and his assisted living care workers from Manitoba Home Care for their care and compassion.
