GARRY WILLIAM MARTENS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Garry Martens on July 19, 2015 at the age of 62, after a brief battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Garry was born April 9, 1953. He was predeceased by his mother Doreen and sister Cheryl. Garry is survived by his wife Christine of 36 years; children, Sarah and Brett; mother-in-law Eileen Molnar; uncle Norman, aunt Jackie, nieces, nephews and much loved cousins and relatives. Garry cherished his friendships with Bruce Somers and David Mintenko. Garry worked in management for Wyatt Rentals, now known as Hertz Equipment Rentals, for most of his adult life. He loved to travel, golf and spend weekends at Lester Beach. Garry was always lending a helping hand and enjoying double rum and cokes. His most valued role in life was being a loving husband and proud father to his kids. He enjoyed many hours in hockey arenas watching Brett's games and it was there that many strong friendships developed with hockey parents and kids. Sarah remembers her Dad as someone who provided the best childhood to his kids; taking them on countless adventures, vacations and camping trips. The most memorable was when Garry and Christine went to Thailand to visit Sarah in 2008. The family thanks staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Unit 5 and 4 for their care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to create awareness about Pulmonary Fibrosis and ask that donations be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. "Rest in Peace, Garry - we will forever love you" CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • Our hearts sank when we heard of your treasured loss. We have fond memories of your visit to our house with your family while Garry did some rum sampling. Big heart and tremendous sense of humor are only two of his best qualities. We met Christine and "The B at the beach girls" in a resort at Puerto Vallarta in 2008 and fell in love with Christine' s sense of humor and magnetic personality. So it was no surprise when we hit it off with Garry, Brett and Eileen... We saw right there what a close family you were and how much love you had for each other. Sarah and Brett were raised by a fantastic father, full of love. We will miss you. Our sincere condolences to the whole family. - Posted by: Dennis & Chantal (Friends from the city north of Riderville!) on: Jul 30, 2015

  • I will miss you dearly. You were a fantastic uncle and I have many fond memories of you. Mostly Christmas holidays and our fly in fishing trip (when the snapping turtle ate all my fish). You have inspired your children and have done one heck of a good job raising them. I was very lucky to have had such a great uncle as you. I am quite sure you are up in heaven having some rum and cokes and playing cards with grandpa, Love you Jamie - Posted by: Jamie (Nephew) on: Jul 26, 2015
