JAMES (JIM) PETER STADNICK A life cut short, but full of adventure, James Peter Stadnick passed away peacefully on July 16, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital. Surviving him are his many cousins and close friends. Jim was a multi-talented man: science buff, photographer, craftsman, artist, fisherman, gardener, story teller, mentor but ever the dreamer. His love affair with photography that began at an early age, evolved into a lifelong career. After graduating from the School of Photography, Polytechnic in London, England, Jim held a variety of positions but in 1977 he was employed by Inco Mines in Thompson as Photographer for the company magazine. It was here that he took many poignant pictures of miners in their work environment. These pictures now hang in Collections at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. In1996 he was honoured by being elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Art. Once semi-retired he turned his creative bend to designing and building two unique homes. His skills as a finishing carpenter were beyond measure. He loved his backyard retreat of beautiful flowers. Perfection was his mantra. After being diagnosed with cancer, building fully furnished doll houses that were meticulously crafted works of art helped him cope with the reality of his illness. These were gifted to the children of family and friends, something to cherish for years to come. Fishing for that elusive big one was a continuous thread throughout his life. He exhibited tenacity in all his endeavours including his unbelievable determination to live against all odds. The family extends a special thanks to Jim's friends for their care and support. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Jim's life will take place on August 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Interment and a private service of remembrance will be held at a later date at Ridgeland Cemetery in Sundown, Manitoba. Memorial donations honouring the life of James can be made to the Winnipeg Foundation. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 204-339-5555
