Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE (YURKO) KITASZ It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of George (Yurko) Kitasz on the morning of August 12, 2015. George was 83 years old. Born on March 10, 1932, George was the third born in a family of four children. He immigrated to Canada in 1962 from Wola Matiaszowa (Lemkivshchyna) where he began to build a life for his family. Upon his arrival in Winnipeg, he worked as a tailor, and later as a butcher, retiring from Burns Meats after 28 years. George loved spending time outdoors, especially at Camp Rusalka and Camp Veselka where he made several lifelong friends. In recent years, George enjoyed playing cribbage, shuffle board and going for breakfast with his friends from Sarina Towers, Bergen Hall Senior's Social Club. He was an active member of Winnipeg's Ukrainian community, and passed on his love of culture to his children and grandchildren. The joy of his life were his five grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with. He is predeceased by two siblings in infancy; his parents, Stephan Kitasz and Maria Kitasz (Szafran); his brothers, Ivan and Michailo Kitasz; daughter-in-law, Tina Nikitas (Kitasz); niece, Maria (Kitasz) Furdyk and nephew, Walter Kitash. George is survived by his sister, Kataryna; daughters, Lesia (Al) and Maria (Jeff), and son, Taras; grandchildren Hanne, Emma, Aidan, Kaylee and Mya. George was a kind and loving man, who never hesitated to make a new friend. He was hardworking, dedicated and always, always put family first. He was a man who at all times made certain that you knew how he felt about you. The family would like to thank all of his friends at Sarina Towers who spent time with George playing cribbage, shuffleboard and penny bingo. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Snitowski, Ron Hruden, Tim Nichol and Derek Kozak, and his godsons, Alex Snitowski and John Knysh. George was the truest and dearest friend (and thereby beloved family member) of the Snitowski family. Our hearts weigh very heavy at this time of profound sadness but we all know that George is having a ball with our beloved father Jan now and that fills us with great joy. Our thoughts and prayers extend to everyone who knew George but especially to the entire Kitasz family whom we hold very dear to our hearts. There are so many wonderful memories of our time spent with George that we cannot express it in less than a novel. May the Lord bestow upon you all the gifts of everlasting life. - Posted by: Snitowski family () on: Aug 14, 2015
