ARI THIESSEN 1952 - 2015 "Life is short. You gotta enjoy it." Suddenly, on August 13, 2015 Ari passed away peacefully in a lawn chair in his back yard. Gone far too soon, he left behind his wife of 38 years, Elfriede; his children Monika Thiessen (Michael Thys), Angela (Christoph) Guertler of Germany and Christopher Thiessen; and his two little beloved granddaughters Lillian and Miriam Guertler. He will also be lovingly remembered by his Mother, Elizabeth Kasdorf; in-laws Henry and Helen Rempel; sisters Elvira (Helmud) Pauls, Kathy Koch Schulte, Helga (Valdemar) Klassen, Lori (George) Friesen, Margarida (Manfred) Hamm, Elizabeth (Harry) Dyck; brothers Hans (Helga) Thiessen, Peter (Lottie Pauls) Thiessen, Walter (Gisele) Kasdorf, Berthold (Doris) Kasdorf and Walter (Waldi) Thiessen in Germany along with his brothers-in-law Henry (Frances) Rempel and John Rempel (Charlotte Leung) and sisters-in-law Linda (Colin) Magee, Lora Rempel and Ingrid (Andy) Parker. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Ari was predeceased by his father Walter Thiessen, brother-in-law Tony Koch-Schulte, sister-in-law Helga Rempel and step-father Abram Kasdorf. Ari was born in Curitiba, Brazil and spent his childhood there riding wild horses and pulling other small-town farm stunts. He moved to Winnipeg with his family in August 1970 where he continued to be known as Chico to his many friends and family. He moved on from wild horses to fast cars and made many new lifelong friends. Ari met Elfriede shortly after moving to Winnipeg and they married in 1977. Together they had many great times with their three kids, including an awesome month-long family adventure touring through Brazil in 2003. Ari was known for his happy-go-lucky nature and being with him always involved a good laugh. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like good food, music, a glass of vino and time with his family. A real people person, you could often find him at his son's shop or chatting with his neighbours. He was always there to lend a hand and was loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed but his example of how to live a full and happy life without regrets will live on. A celebration of Ari's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street. There will be a short service followed by a come-and-go' style reception. Because Ari believed that a good day always started with "three slices of toast and two poached eggs", in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winnipeg Harvest. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555.

My heart breaks for Frieda and family. I just heard of Ari's passing. He was an amazing wonderful man who did lots for his tenants on Regent! Things were never the same once they sold the blocks. Ari thank you for being so kind to my boys and I, you treated all your tenants like family. You were always cheerful and smiling. May your family take comfort in knowing that you are watching over them. My sincere condolences to the Thiessen Family - Posted by: Charlene Sutherland (Tenant of Ari's ) on: Jun 28, 2016

We travelled in July 2011 to Winnipeg in order to celebrate the marriage of our son Christoph with Angela Thiessen. There we met Ari and his family first time and we got to know him as a hearty and frankly man, always helpful and authentic. He enjoyed his life with his family and was very happy and proud of his two little beloved granddaughters. We will miss him. - Posted by: Guertler (Parents of Christoph Guertler, husband of Angela Guertler (Thiessen)) on: Aug 19, 2015
