BRIAN JOSEPH WINCHERA October 25, 1960 - September 8, 2015 Surrounded by friends, Brian Joseph Winchera passed away at the Concordia Hospital on the morning of September 8, 2015, after a short and courageous battle with cancer and within a day of returning from a most memorable trip out west with close buddies. Brian was born in Castor, Alberta, and was the fourth child of Adam and Francis Winczura. He and his family also held strong roots in Camrose, AB, where, as a young adult, Brian took up employment with Border Paving. Eventually, Brian moved to Winnipeg where he became employed with the City of Winnipeg, and, because of his new job and friends, decided to stay. He worked in various departments over a span of 31 years, finishing his career and recently retiring from the Water Department. There was never a dull day with Brian around. He brought energy to the crew. Brian was strong... physically, of course, but also strong-minded, strong-willed and fiercely independent. He loved his family and his friends. We all meant the most to him. He also had a soft spot for animals. Brian loved exploring and adventure: fishing, whether summer or winter, he could always be found on the water. In any situation, Brian was always the first to lend a helping hand. The recent trip out west proved Brian's steadfastness and ambition, pushing through the pain to make the most of his last days in beautiful surroundings with close friends, and visiting with family after so many years. Brian was predeceased by his mother, father, brother Duane and nephew Clayton. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any animal shelter.
