NELLIE ENNS September 6, 1929 - September 6, 2015 In loving memory of Nellie Enns who passed away at Bayside Personal Care Home, Killarney Manitoba, on September 6, 2015 at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Abram and Katherina Enns, brother John and sister-in-law Mary, and sister Tina. Nellie was born September 6, 1929 to Abram and Katherina Enns on a farm south of Lena, Manitoba, the third of four children. Nellie completed elementary school at Plum Hollow, grades 9 and 10 by correspondence and finished high school at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, Manitoba. Nellie graduated from Normal School in 1952 and taught at several rural schools for the next three years. Following a volunteer term as a health care aide at the Brandon Mental Hospital, Nellie discovered her passion was nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1963 from the Misericordia School of Nursing. She continued her education, completing her Bachelor of Nursing in 1966, and a Bachelor of Arts in 1967, both from the University of Manitoba. When her mother was severely paralyzed following a stroke, Nellie became her primary caregiver. With much persistence from Nellie and her sister Tina, their mother regained the use of her hands and was able to walk with a tripod cane. During these years, Nellie developed a keen interest in cooking, gardening and painting. She leaves to mourn her sister Margaret and brother-in-law Jake (Peters), seven nieces and nephews and their families, as well as cousins and friends. A celebration of Nellie's life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment in the Sargent Avenue Church Cemetery in Springstein. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Bayside Personal Care Home in Killarney for the excellent and loving care Aunt Nellie received during the last year and a half of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 204-339-5555
