WILLY PENNER It is with heavy hearts that we, Willy's family, announce his sudden passing on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 60. He was predeceased by his parents, Herta and Willi. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Tracy Martin; sons, Justin and Garret; daughter Lauryn; sisters, Erica (Pete) and Hilda (Rick); brother Harry (Cathy) and nieces and nephews. Will was born in Paraguay, South America, and his parents moved the family to Canada, settling in St. James, in Winnipeg. Will was always an active, sporty type. In his teens, he played ice hockey, took up long distance running and later in life, greatly enjoyed going for extended bike rides out to Headingley and around the perimeter. His wife Tracy loved to take him on adventures. They drove to Mexico, Florida, New Orleans, Texas and loved to explore places by riding their bikes everywhere. They would zip line, surf, boogie board, eat out and check out all the cool touristy spots. They attended the Fringe Festival, concerts, went out for parfaits, and loved going to see science fiction or action films. Willy loved going to see vintage cars with his son Garret, as they share a love of all things car related. His greatest love was spending endless hours in his garage working on his MG, the long-term project that was finally nearing completion. Garret plans to finish his Dad's hard work and get it out on the road again. Somewhere Willy is smiling about that. Willy loved his family. He was a great dad, always there to listen if we had a problem, always ready to lend a helping hand. His sister Hilda describes him as "the most kind gentle man". But those who were close to him knew him to be goofy, funny, playful, stubborn, meticulous and hard working as well. When he wanted something, there was no stopping him, he was so determined to get his way. He will be dearly missed. He was such a great husband and everyone who knew him, loved him. He had many friends among his co-workers at Manitoba Hydro, where he worked as an electrical tech for over 40 years. Our hearts ache knowing we will never have him to laugh with again. Such a sad time for all of those who knew and loved him. He was taken too soon. Memorial service will be held Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street 204-339-5555
