HORST WIEBE Peacefully at Bethesda Regional Health Centre on Monday, September 28, 2015, Mr. Horst Wiebe of Steinbach, Manitoba, passed away at the age of 80 years. He will be missed by his family: Hannelore, Werner, Robert (Lynne), Doris (Charles) and Norman; his grandchildren: Jenna, Steven, Kevin, Mark, Dana, Gabriella and Annalisa; his brothers: Eckardt (Ute) and Helmut (Irma); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents Kurt and Kathe Wiebe, sister Marianne Regehr, and brother-in-law Walter Regehr, brother Karl and sister-in-law MaryAnne Wiebe. Horst was born on June 4, 1935 in Schönsee, Germany. In 1951, after the war, his family immigrated to Canada and settled in Coaldale, Alberta. There he worked hoeing beets to help raise money for the family farm. He also cleaned construction sites in Calgary, worked on the railroad, and worked nights in a sawmill in British Columbia. The family was eventually able to purchase a farm near Rosemary, Alberta. Dad eventually decided to move to Manitoba where he married Hannelore. They began their own dairy farm near Kleefeld, and started raising a family. In 1966, a move was made to the Grunthal area, and the farm was grown into a successful operation. Dad always loved cars, and in his retirement years started his own used car business. He also loved gardening, especially growing his apple trees, which he could talk non-stop about. Summers would be spent at his trailer in St. Malo. Dad loved books and could be found spending long hours reading. He loved travelling to Mexico, and enjoyed spending his winters in the sun. Here he met his friend Jose Zarate, and also became good friends with the Hernandez Cruz family. He often spoke of the good times he shared with them. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy. 52 W, Steinbach, MB. Ash interment at Green Acres Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB. The family wishes to thank the medical unit at Bethesda Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Gumber and Dr. Reimer, as well as all the staff for the wonderful care they provided. Thank you for always taking the extra time to talk to Horst, and also the family. This was very much appreciated and will never be forgotten.
