Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER MARION SABADASH December 14, 1920 to November 17, 2015 With sadness we share the peaceful passing of Peter Sabadash at Holy Family Nursing Home, on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at the age of 94. Peter was predeceased by his parents Annie (nee Boyko) and John Sabadash, Ellen, his wife of 50 years, daughter Patricia and sisters Mary (Mike) and Annie (Leonard). Peter is survived by his brothers Paul (Helen), Maurice (Elsie), Joe (Carol) and by his sisters Phyllis (Nick), Pauline (Alex), Ollie (Norm) and Elsie (Mike). Peter is also survived by his son-in-law Allan (Rita), grandchildren Daniel and Tamara (Craig) and great-grandchild Charley. Peter was born in Prudhomme, SK on December 14, 1920. He was the second out of 10 children. Peter's early years were spent on the family farm in the Cudworth, SK area. Peter remarked many times of the hard work that had to be put in at the family farm by everybody, but said they never went without and it was a happy loving place to grow up. Peter enlisted in the Canadian Army in May of 1942 at the age of 21 and spent three years and eight months in service, finally being discharged in April of 1946. It was in the army when Peter started donating blood and continued into civilian life, amassing a total of 100+ donations, Peter was very proud of this accomplishment. After army life, Peter went to work in Red Lake mine in Ontario; from there he got a job at the Rayovac battery company in Winnipeg. The Rayovac Company had plans to relocate into Ontario and Peter's supervisor informed him of this and lined up an interview with the City of Winnipeg-Transit division. Peter was hired as a transit driver in 1955, due to the skills he acquired in the army. Peter spent the next 29 years on the job, finally retiring in 1984. It was during his employment at Rayovac when he met his future wife Ellen. Peter and Ellen were married on January 14, 1950 at Holy Ghost Church in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg as it was known back then. Peter and Ellen had one daughter, Patricia, who was born on January 24, 1951. Peter and family lived in the North end of Winnipeg for many years and in 1960 Peter bought a brand new home on Harbison Ave in the Elmwood area. Peter resided there until 2006 when he moved into Concordia Village, an assisted living complex. He enjoyed his time there and especially liked the fact that all the cooking was done for him. Peter lived at Concordia Village from 2006 to 2012 but had to move due to failing health to Holy Family Nursing Home. It was here where he spent his remaining days. Thank you to all the staff at Holy Family. Your care, kindness and grace will forever be in our hearts. Gigi will always be missed and never forgotten. In keeping with Peter's wishes, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 10:00 am at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
