PETER REGIER It is with a profound mixture of sorrow and joy that we announce the passing of Peter Regier on Friday, November 27, 2015, aged 93 years. Peter lived a life of triumph over adversity, contributing to the happiness of his family and the well being of many people who crossed his path and needed help. Born in Siberia, Russia on October 23, 1922, Peter moved with his family to Chaco, Paraguay in 1929. When the end of the Second World War brought many other displaced German-Russian settlers to Paraguay, Peter found the love of his life amongst them. He and Maria (Mika) Kroeker were married on December 28, 1950. Peter, Maria and the first two of their six children moved to Canada in 1955, arriving in Winnipeg in December. He lived a life of gratitude for the children God gave him and the opportunity to raise them in Canada. Peter was a lifetime member of North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. He served faithfully in many roles, even into his 70s when he volunteered to go to Lithuania, to help mentor workers who were reconstructing a Soviet style building into accommodations for the new Bible College. After he retired, he welcomed all to his cottage at Lester Beach. The cottage was abuzz in activity and he was much beloved by young and old. He leaves to mourn his passing, but with great thankfulness that he was part of our lives, his wife of nearly 65 years, Maria (Mika) (nee Kroeker), his children Herb (Marlene), Elvira (Douwe), Irmie (Irvin), Wilf (Jennifer), Tamira (Elwood) and Randy (Lisa). He also leaves his grandchildren Melanie (Rocky), David, Heidi (David), Justin, Joel, Ronalee (Josh), Shelby (Tracy), Alexandra (Michael), Ian, Max, Madeleine, Anika, Mia and Emmie, and four great-grandchildren, Easton, Griffin, Cooper and Logan. Peter is survived by his brothers Hans Regier (Leni), Artur Boschman (Ursula), David Boschman, and sister Margita Froese (Aaron). He was predeceased by sister Irma Neufeld (Herman), and brother Vic Boschman (Lilly). A celebration of Peter's life will be held at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church - Cuba Project.

  • My earliest memory of Onkel Peter was a rather terrifying moment, as a 5-year old, when he greeted me by rubbing his half-shaven beard against my face and laughing hilariously(!). After that, I came to appreciate his regular smile which was so infectious. He also hosted us at the lake one winter weekend as "the boys" went tearing around on the snowmobiles. Grace, peacefulness and contentment is what resonates in my memory as I reflect on his life. May God bless and comfort Tante Mika and the entire family. - Posted by: Karl Froese (Nephew) on: Nov 28, 2015

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Our visits with him in the last few weeks were meaningful and special. - Posted by: Margita and Aron and family (Sister to Peter) on: Nov 28, 2015
