LYDIA ALBRECHT 1923 - 2015 Peacefully, on the evening of Tuesday, November 24, 2015, Lydia Albrecht passed away in her 93rd year. Lydia, whose husband Gustav passed in 1999, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her sons Peter (Brigitte) and Klaus (Yvonne), her beloved grandchildren Christina (Mike), Daniel (Avegail), Benjamin (Lisa), Rebecca, and Rachel (Jason) and especially by her great-grandchildren Isaiah, Léo, Annika, Heidi, Harrison and her step-great-grandson Donovan. As well, mom leaves behind sister Wanda, and brothers Gustav and Edmund, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom had a long and fulfilling life. After the Second World War, she and dad married in 1945, started a family and made the decision to leave war torn Germany; they immigrated to Canada in 1952. Although the first years here were very difficult, over time, through hard work and perseverance, life became easier and they were able to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Mom had many good qualities but the one that probably stood out most was her generosity. Whatever she had, she was willing to share. No one ever left our home without having been well fed or given a "care" package. She would often say, "If I'm able to give, I will." Mom was also very active in her church community. Until this past year, she rarely missed a Sunday service. When she was unable to attend services, she held her own private, in-house service. Her faith was unwavering. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, with interment in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Peter's Memorial Fund or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
