MANUEL PEREIRA It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. He passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Grace Hospital following a lengthy struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Deolinda; his brother Nicolau, Armando, Jose and sister Maria. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Maria; his children, Octavio, Idelta (Carlos), Ana (Emanuel); his grandchildren Marla, Marcus, Ryan and Cory. He is also survived by his sisters, Nalia, Otilia and Idelta and various nieces and nephews. Manuel was born June 11, 1934 in Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel, Portugal. After completing primary school Manuel worked with his father as a cobblestone paver. After his term in the army Manuel married Maria in 1957 and started their family. Manuel immigrated to Winnipeg in 1962. In 1969 his family came to join him. Manuel worked at various construction firms as a cement finisher and also did interlocking paving stone work. Manuel was highly skilled, hard working and took great pride in doing his best. He stayed active after retiring in 1997 doing activities he loved. He loved plants and meticulously kept his garden and flower beds. Each fall he bought grapes and made his famous wine. Manuel loved music, he played the mandolin and harmonica. For years he was a director of the Banda Lira De Fatima, serving as president of the band for several years. He loved family especially the grandchildren to whom he constantly gave advice. He loved conversation and would tell endless stories. He was generous, kind and a great family man willing to help others in time of need. He will be missed greatly. We are thankful and truly appreciate the paramedics, doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for looking after Manuel and for their kindness, sympathy and understanding offered to us in such a difficult time. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, December 15 at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 16 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West. DESCANSE EM PAZ CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
