Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA (ANNIE) DYCK Peacefully, with family at her side, Annie passed away on December 15, 2015 at the Grace Hospice, at the age of 74. Mourning her passing are her daughter Katherine (Todd) with grandchildren, Nadine and Fred; brother Hermann (Maria) and their family in Germany and Russia; and sister Margaret (Jake) and their family in Winnipeg. Also surviving is one aunt in Germany, and many cousins in Winnipeg, British Columbia, U.S.A. and Germany. Annie is predeceased by her parents, Abram and Katharina; brother Arthur in infancy, niece Melanie; and nephew-in-law Keith. Annie was born in Rosenthal, Chortitza, Ukraine on October 1, 1941. In October of 1943 the family fled to Germany. In the chaos of this "Great Trek", she, together with her brother and father were separated from her mother and baby sister. In Germany, they were handed back to the Russians and sent to the city of Solikamsk, in the Ural Mountains. Life was difficult here. Starvation and cold were their daily companions. Annie's health suffered greatly, and finally she could no longer work. In 1966, at the age of 24, she was able to come to Canada, to be reunited with her mother and sister. With good food and warm clothing, Annie's health improved and she got a job with Arthur Gill, Tailor. When that shop closed, Annie got a job at Canadian News Company. In 1980 her daughter Katherine was born, who become the focus of her life. Later, her grandchildren, Nadine and Fred, became the joy of her life. Funeral service for Annie will take place at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield Street, on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Sargent Avenue Church Cemetery in Springstein, Manitoba. Donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Grace Hospice, where Annie received compassionate care for the last three weeks of her life. She will be missed!
