BENJAMIN PETER SLEVA (SLIWA) March 16, 1921 - December 18, 2015 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ben, at the age of 94, at Donwood Manor. Many hearts will miss him greatly but none more than his son Gary (Carol); daughter Darlene (Darrell) Demski; grandchildren, Jason, Chris, Jeremy, Lisa and Laura; great-grandchildren Jazmin, Kaylee, Devon, Charlee and Lily. He is also survived by his brother Walter, and sister Clara Sacher. Those rejoicing in heaven and setting another place at God's table for Dad at Jesus' Birthday party are our mother, Lillian who predeceased him in 2000, his brothers Joe, Tom, Steve, Frank and John, sisters Carrie and Betty, and many other friends and family that have gone before him. Dad was born in Stead, MB; third oldest of 10 children, he lived on the family farm until joining the army where he served for three years during the Second World War. He met and married our beautiful mother in 1949 in Toronto. After starting their family they moved to Winnipeg to raise them. Dad's entire career was spent in the construction trade. Hard work was no stranger to him and for many years was employed by Talbot Drywall & Lathing as a working supervisor. In his spare time he enjoyed both the old homestead and the family cottage at Grand Marais where he made many memories and found great peace. Dad was gifted in music and played the harmonica beautifully, privileged were those who got the chance to enjoy it. He loved creative woodworking, gardening, golfing, fishing and especially time with family who gave and received much love from this wonderful man. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment at Holy Family Cemetery. Thank you to Donwood Manor who took such good care of Dad over the last year. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations may be made in Dad's memory to a charity of your choice. Dad, we'll see you later, "Bet your life, boy" VICHNAYA PAM'YAT Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

  • Oh grandpa, today was such a hard day but I felt you near. I know you saw all the people who loved you and whose lives you made better by them just knowing you. Such a talented man,I was going to play you a song today but as good as I am on guitar I just couldn't make it sound right. Not the way you could. I know you know I tried, maybe you can help me with that sometime ;). I'm gonna miss you but I feel good knowing you're at rest, all tucked in with grandma having an incredible time with all your friends and loved ones you haven't seen in awhile. We gave you some cool stuff to take on your journey, you'll be able to entertain all of them. Well, love you, a lot. See you again, bet your life boy!
