Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I credit Prof. Reimer for being the inspiration that led me to a career in higher education. My experience with highschool English teachers had been far from inspirational, and it was literally eye-opening to encounter in my freshman year a teacher so full of enthusiasm for his discipline, and love of knowledge. Animated, humorous, and invariably interesting and informative, Prof. Reimer caused me to realize that a career as a professor could be extremely rewarding. Nine years later I graduated from the University of Alberta with a PhD in American literature, and after some years, secured a fulltime position at the University of Saskatchewan, from which I retired five years ago. While Prof. Reimer was not the only person who inspired me, he was the first, and he provided me with a pedagogical model that stayed with me throughout my teaching career. He had a vibrant personality that is impossible to forget, and his love of literature was infectious. - Posted by: Terry Matheson (Former student) on: Jan 01, 2016
