During my engineering undergrad at U of M, the only course I did well on was Kwan's Solid State Electronics course. During 4th year, he asked me what I was doing next, encouraged me to come to do my M.Sc. with him, and wrote the letter to the dean for me (my marks were not good enough to get into grad studies without the support of the professor). 1983 - 1986 was spent with Kwan and the rest of the materials group (Sergio, Bob, Paul, Vic, Chewie, James, Dong Liu) and an assortment of visiting professors from China. Always encouraging to me, always urging me to go faster - Kwan was a very positive force in my life. - Posted by: James Schellenberg (Student) on: Jan 21, 2016
