SOPHIE SKOTNICZNY October 11, 1924 - January 7, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mama, grandma (Babcia) and great-grandma Sophie. She is survived by her two sons: Stan and wife Bonnie and children Leah (Harlan) and Tanya (Jason) of Alberta; Eddy and his wife Brenda and their children Paul and Christy (Josh); daughter Valerie and husband Larry Mandarano and children Daniela and Tatjana; son-in-law Al May and daughter Kelly. She also leaves her loving great-grandchildren Shayla, Carter, Ethan, Noah and Abigail-Sofia. Also left to cherish her memory is her best friend and neighbour Laura, her sister Christina, sister-in-law Jadwiga, niece Hania (Bogdan), as well as many other relatives in Poland and her great-niece Emilka (Laurence) in England. Mom was predeceased by her husband Edward, daughter Mary, three brothers, Edward, Eric, Wojtek, and sister Hania of Poland. Mom was born in Lodz, Poland on October 11, 1924. At the tender age of 16, Mom was taken away from her family as a Prisoner of War. It was there that she met the love of her life, Edward and they immigrated to Canada in 1951. They taught their children how to appreciate what you have and taught us many values in life we will live by forever. Family was always the center of Mom's life and it gave her, her greatest joy. She loved everyone unconditionally and no matter what you needed or when, she was ALWAYS there. Family always came first and she loved being surrounded by us all. Mom had a great sense of humour right to the end and loved when she could make someone laugh and loved to laugh with everyone as well. We will never forget the sound of that laughter. Mom also loved to garden and plant and take care of her many flowers we always had in our yard and home. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Residence, where she resided for the past three years. Your kindness and compassion for our mother will never be forgotten. A special thank you to Dr. Andrea Babick who not only checked in on Mom but also took the time to do the rosary with her. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 10 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba. "A limb has fallen from the family tree, I keep hearing a voice that says "Grieve not for me" Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I was truly blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don't worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes we're together again." Val & Larry, so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember seeing your mum in her garden and it was always beautiful. My dad would walk his dog and stop and talk to your dad. Please accept my condolences on behalf of my self and my family, Jean & Jozef Feliksiak and Ann Feliksak Smith. You are in our thoughts and prayers - Posted by: Margaret Feliksiak (neighbourhood friend, school mates to Larry & Val) on: Jan 12, 2016

Can always remember Mrs. Skotniczny talking over the fence to my mom, and letting me pick peas from her garden, and visit the pigeons. Many happy times dancing to accordion in the backyard, and these are the memories I will cherish. They are all together again. - Posted by: Liz Pinnock (Old neighbour) on: Jan 09, 2016
