ANDY MITTELSTADT It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Andy was born in a flurry (literally) on March 4, 1966 in Winnipeg and passed away suddenly on January 6, 2016. Andy leaves to mourn his wife Anna and daughter Kaitlyn. He is survived and missed by his mother Ruth Mittelstadt; father Bruno Mittelstadt; father-in-law Byron Elsey (predeceased by his mother-in-law Joan); brothers, Marty (and Evelyn), Parry and Ken (and Lisa); sisters-in-law, Rachel (and Doug), Ruth (and Todd), Pauline (and Jeff), as well as nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Andy welcomed into his home many beloved children, Jennifer, Tiffany, Curtis, Melanie, Andrew, and Janelle, as well as ten international students, Seoyeon, Luiza, Gabby, Chihiro, Nikki, Yuka, Natalie, Eva, Grace, and Tania. Andy worked as a trades instructor at the Manitoba Youth Center for over twenty years with his "deer" colleagues and with compassionate care for the kids he touched every day. Andy embodied the true meaning of family and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, anything outdoors (especially on the water!), cooking, and guitar. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Andy to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. The funeral service will be held on Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555.

  • My heart sank to learn of Andy's passing. He and I worked closely together for a number of years. I consider myself lucky to have known him, and even luckier to be able to call him my friend. He brought so much to my life, and to the lives of so many around him.
