She is survived by: her caring husband of 63 years, William "Texas Bill" M. Giesbrecht; children: Valerie Frey (Bob), Garry Giesbrecht (Lynn), Malvine Giesbrecht (Allen Schalla), Orville Giesbrecht (Pamela), Lorie Lenchyshyn (Tony); grandchildren: Graham (Jennifer), Caroline (Jeremy), Nathan, Jeremy (Emily), Matthew, Thomas, Jack; and great-grandchild Xander. Also remembering Mary will be her four sisters, three brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews and their families. She is predeceased by: her parents Gerhard and Agatha Enns; three brothers and two sisters; as well as many in her extended family. Mary was born on a sweltering day, on July 16, 1930, at her home in Bristol, Manitoba. Mary was the middle child of thirteen children. Growing up on the family farm during the 30's was an experience she spoke of often. Upon finishing her schooling, she began working at a law office in Steinbach. On August 17, 1952, Mary wed Bill and the party began! She was actively engaged raising five children. Bill's career provided frequent international travel opportunities which enriched her life. Mary had many passions. She was an excellent seamstress and adventurous cook, enjoying trying new recipes regularly. She also enjoyed gardening and had a special talent grouping plants for a "showy" effect. Mary was also very dedicated to community service. She was actively involved with 4H, Treble Teens, Association of Community Living, Canadian Diabetes Association, Cancer Care, and Bethesda Ladies Auxiliary. She was the first woman to run for Steinbach City Council. She was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church since her baptism and demonstrated her unconditional love for her Lord throughout her life. Mary had a meticulous work ethic which lent itself to the job with Statistics Canada for over 22 years. Mary had a special place in her heart for each and every grandchild and made a significant positive impact on them. Mary was a very dignified, appreciative woman who made a point to always personally thank those who helped her, especially as her health declined. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and extraordinary care she received from Dr. Karen Toews, home care, and palliative care. The children would also like to thank Dad for his dedicated care and respect for her wishes to be at home. The Memorial Service for Mary Giesbrecht will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Highway 52 West, Steinbach, MB.
