IRENE ANNE CLAY May 3, 1924 - January 12, 2016 A devoted, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon. She is survived by her son, Grant Clay; daughter Susan Bias (Terry); grandchildren, Trevor Clay (Marina), and Jodi Bias (Nick Curtis); great-grandchildren, Brooke Curtis and Katelyn Clay; as well as many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Edward (Ted) Clay, the love of her life; as well as her parents, Fred and Ada Wooster; and sisters, Olive Shettler and Doris Duma. Irene was born in and remained a very proud resident of East Kildonan throughout her life. Irene married Ted in 1945 while he was serving in the R.C.A.F during the Second World War. Irene's entire adult life was dedicated to her family. She raised her and Ted's two children on Greene Avenue, eventually moving to Rowandale Crescent. Their summer passion was the cottage in Silver Falls where they spent many special summers and left priceless memories. Whether feeding her family, gardening or collecting receivables for Ted at Canadian Rubber Stamp, Irene was meticulous in all that she ever did. She always took a firm stance and would not rest until things were exactly as she wanted them, perfect. Irene had a passion for art and would paint whenever she could. In her later years, she greatly enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends and stayed in daily contact with her closest friend Jean Nicholson, who was like a sister to her. Irene's great-grandchildren, Brooke and Katelyn were blessed to spend many special moments with her. Her eyes truly lit up watching them play together at Christmas and family events. We will always remember her caring nature and her love, devotion and unwavering support to her entire family. Irene, we love you and we are taking solace in our knowledge that you are with your beloved Ted. We know that you are both watching over us as you always have. In keeping with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, and to honour Irene's memory, we would ask that you show the people around you how much you care about them as Irene did every day.
