WILHELM (WILLY) LOEWEN September 21, 1928 - January 18, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a truly kind and generous soul. Our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Willy Loewen, passed away on January 18, 2016. Over the course of a long and exceptional life, Willy warmed the hearts of many, cared unconditionally for his community, and faithfully served his family, his church, and many organizations. Willy is survived by a family he kept extremely close and with whom he created lasting and loving memories. He leaves behind: children, Garry (Johanna), Marlies (Herb), and Rudy (Carol); grandchildren, Tara (Brett), Mark, Andrea (David), John, David, Jennifer (Austin), Ryan (Tasha) and Madison; great-grandchildren, Noah, Liam, Campbell, Kaia, Lucy, Parker and Grayson. Willy was predeceased by the love of his life, his sweetheart Mary, who sadly left him in 2011. Willy lit up every room, sharing his beaming smile and teasing humour. Willy was truly God's quiet servant, generously giving of his time and compassion to friends in need, as well as organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, Douglas Church and the Mennonite Central Committee Thrift Store. For the last three and a half years, Willy has resided at Bethania Personal Care Home where he enjoyed interacting with staff and residents. In recent months his spark had faded, but he still managed to share his beautiful smile and tease his favourite staff members. His joy and love for all will be deeply missed. We are so grateful for the staff that cared for our father so lovingly. Willy's funeral will be held at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, with an interment later that day at Green Acres Cemetery. Viewing will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Bethania Personal Care Home or Mennonite Central Committee.
