FELIXINE (TOOTS) MAILHOT (née OUIMET) February 6, 1924 January 19, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Félixine at home, on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the age of 91. Félixine was born on her family's homestead in Union Point, MB, on February 6, 1924. As a child, she much enjoyed going to school and graduated grade 12 in 1942. She then trained as a teacher at Normal School in Winnipeg. While working as a teacher in Lac du Bonnet, MB, she met the nephew of her billets, Paul Mailhot, an infantryman on a brief leave before departing for Europe for service with the Royal 22e Régiment. They exchanged numerous letters during the War and upon his return to Canada in 1945, began dating. Married on July 19, 1947, they settled in his hometown of Gravelbourg, SK. In 1951, they moved to St. Boniface, MB, starting their new life on Goulet Street before Paul constructed their home in St. Norbert in 1961. There they raised their family and lived out the remainder of their lives along the Red River. Félixine was a devoted and loving wife who truly supported her husband Paul in sickness and in health until his untimely passing in 1984. Toots was remarkably active well into her advanced age, enjoying visits with family and friends. With her smile and outgoing personality, she loved a good party, an occasional glass of wine, and hitting the dance floor at the many celebrations she attended. She was always up for adventures, including waterslides and rollercoasters. Félixine was a talented choralist, singing in the choir of l'Eglise Saint-Norbert and La Chorale des Intrépides well into her 80's. She kept herself healthy in body and mind by entertaining an ever increasing number of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doing aerobics, participating in weight training and other exercise classes offered by Pembina Active Living 55+. Félixine, Mom, Toots, Grandma, Mémère, Ma Tante was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Félixine leaves to cherish her memory her children Dolores, Lionel (Darlene), Philippe (Val), Lizanne (Brian), Nicole (Jean) and Ronald (Elizabeth); son-in-law Alan; her grandchildren Alaina (Dean), Dionne (James), Bryan (India), Renée (Brad), Janelle (Matthew), Kyle (Karlene), Paul (Kathleen), Danielle (Steven), Alyse, Patrick and Rhéal; her great-grandchildren Eryn, Austin, Craig, Saul, Garret, Kingston and Sabbath. She is also survived by her sister Marceline Pilon and her brothers Jean-Léon (Marie), Adélard (Simone) and Cyrille (Lucille). Félixine was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul, her parents John and Célina, her brothers Adrien and Michel Ouimet, and her sisters Yvonne Barten, Marie-Reine Doucet and Simone Caron. Félixine's family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Beth Whitaker, staff of WRHA Home Care and Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care. Mom also wanted the family to thank Claudette MacDonald, Dora Gervais and the many other friends and family who provided support and good company over the past year. Funeral mass will be celebrated by l'abbé Roland Lanoie at l'Eglise Saint-Norbert, 80 rue Saint-Pierre, Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Audio/Visual presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Félixine Mailhot may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I grew up beside the Mailhots in St.Norbert and I remember Mrs. Mailhot as a caring and hard working woman busy raising a young family and helping Mr. Mailhot with his home meat cutting business. I have memories of Mrs. Mailhot hanging laundry behind the house, tending to her flowers and walking up from the garden with arms full of produce destined for the dinner table. My father died when I was 13 years old and the Mailhots were always there willing to help my mother with whatever she needed. Mrs. Mailhot was a frequent coffee mate for my mom who always enjoyed her visits. The Mailhots would often include me in trips to the beach that ended with hot dogs around a picnic table on warm summer evenings. At the time I was happy to go and enjoy that time with their family. Now much older, I look back on this and see the great compassion and kindness that the Mailhots had for the little neighbour boy. - Posted by: Wilmar Chopyk (Friend) on: Jan 26, 2016

  • Condolenses are being sent to all of Felixine's family and friends who will miss her physical presence. I believe her love will remain near everyone's heart, her spirit will live on in Heavenly Places, she will reunite with loved ones who have gone before her, and the beautiful memories created over the years will last until eternity. ** Felixine, thanks for being such a wonderful person, a source of unconditional love to your family, an amazing teacher to so many people, and a gift to everyone who had the opportunity to meet you. My father (Rene Tetrault) grew up in Lac du Bonnet, MB... his parents (my Memere-Leonie Tetrault and my Pepere-Armond Tetrault) and his siblings were all very blessed to know you. My Memere's sister, Sister Aline Paul, really enjoyed spendng time with you when you visited her at the Convent in St Boniface, Maison Chapel (now known as Villa Aulneau) and I felt privileged to have meaningful conversations with you every time we unintentionally visited my great-aunt, Auntie Aline, on the same day, and when we attended the same family or extended-family gatherings. I am now a mother and a grand-mother of three lovely grand-daughters... as I take time to reflect: I thank God you and I met and I had the opportunity to meet your husband and other members of your family, I am grateful for the positive influence you had on my life, and my heart's desire is to learn how to be the kind of ever-loving, active and involved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother you have been for your family. Sending you lots of love as you continue your spiritual journey. - Posted by: Lois Tetrault (Extended Family Relative and Friend) on: Jan 26, 2016

  • I will miss my weekly visits with Félixine! She was always so positive and upbeat no matter how she felt. After receiving communion, she would manage to eat without noticing it ( while chatting ) the entire little lunches I enjoyed preparing for her! She enjoyed conversing about past events, as well as keeping up with current ones! Enjoy exploring the universe God created Félixine! - Posted by: Claudette McDonald (friend) on: Jan 23, 2016
