PEGGY EMILY DOUGLAS (nee LAWSON) September 12, 1921 - January 24, 2016 It is with deep sadness, Peggy's family announces her passing after a brief illness. Peggy will be greatly missed by her sons Wayne (Mavis), and Terry (Cathy), grandchildren Paul, (Leigh), Tiffany (Adam), Chelsea (Tim), Adam (Jennifer) and Ashlee (Colby), along with great-grandchildren Carson, Jake, Ava, Theo, Nathan and Arleigh and niece Sharon (Keath). Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband Glen and dear sister Jeanne. Peggy was born and raised in West Kildonan in Winnipeg, where she loved to play baseball and ride her bike in Kildonan Park. She wrote for the school paper, starred as The Earl of Douglas in a school play and played hockey and baseball. Dancing was another favorite and she took lessons in tap and highland. Peggy married Glen in 1945. They raised their sons in East Kildonan. Morse Place Community Club was where they volunteered for hockey and dances. Summers found them camping until they built their cottage at Falcon Lake where they made lifelong friends. Peggy and Glen loved entertaining at the cottage and at their home. Their Boxing Day Open House was a tradition in the area. After losing Glen in 2011, Peggy continued to focus on her family, talking to her friends, watching Coronation Street and sports on T.V. Peggy had a great sense of humour and very quick wit which kept us all laughing. Her positive attitude in life had to be a contributing factor to her long happy life. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Savior's Anglican Church on Munroe and Grey Street.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our sincerest sympathy to all our family in Winnipeg. We will miss our favorite Auntie Peggy so much. So many good memories: Winnipeg Beach, the cabin at Falcon Lake, the parties and her stories. We are so glad we had a wonderful visit with her last summer. We are very sorry we cannot be with you on Friday, but our thoughts and prayers will be. With much Love - Sharon, Keath and our family in Calgary. - Posted by: Sharon Austen (Niece) on: Feb 08, 2016

  • We are so very sad to hear of the passing of our Dear Neighbor, Peggy! We have so many lovely memories of your Mom and Dad from our time on Munroe Avenue. They adopted us right away when we moved in, and we had so much fun hanging out with them, your folks would outlast us every time! Peggy has always been in my prayers and now we keep you all in our prayers as well as you go through this sad time. - Posted by: Allison and Berni Harder (neighbors) on: Feb 07, 2016
