Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT MASON SUTTON June 1, 1926 - January 11, 2016 It is with the deepest sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful father and grandad, Bob Sutton. Predeceased by the love of his life, wife Frances (Rooke), parents Thomas and Lucy and older siblings, Mollie (Jack Singleton) and Bert Sutton, Bob will be deeply missed by son Lloyd, daughter Elaine (Tim Kelly), grandson Riley Sutton, Riley's mother Andrea Newsom, brother Dick Sutton (Mary Lou), sisters-in-law Hazel Sutton and Leila Rooke and many cherished nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Bob was born in Winnipeg's North End and attended St. John's High School where he honed his interest in the sciences. In 1944 upon graduation he enlisted in the RCAF. He completed his training just as the Second World War was winding down and consequently he did not fly in active combat, something he regretted. He had a passion for flying and he maintained this throughout his life. Returning to civilian life, he enrolled in the University of Winnipeg's Engineering program and began his working career as a draughtsman for the CPR. Starting work with Baert Construction in the late 50s, he was responsible for supervising the construction of some of Winnipeg's most iconic buildings including the Richardson Building, the City Hall and the Great West Life Building. Together with his brother Dick, Bob also formed a small construction company, Sutton Associates. Changing work direction completely in the mid 70s he went to work for Yamaha Music and was head of their School of Music working there for over a decade. He then returned to the construction business to finish his career working with the CMHC. Dad's interests revolved around St. John's Cathedral, music, flying and building things. His faith was paramount in his life and he was a lifelong member of the Cathedral. He served the Church as both Rector's and People's Warden, a member and fixture of the vestry into his 80s and a booming bass in the Cathedral Choir. It was in that choir that he met the love of his life, Frances (Fran) and it was there they were married on June 3, 1950. They celebrated 64 years of marriage together until Fran's passing in June 2014. He enjoyed making music with Fran, she played the piano, and he played the organ. Many longtime friendships were made with his activities around the Cathedral and the bowling league. The two homes and cottage that Bob meticulously built, with the help of friends, will outlive us all. The fun parties of the 50s, 60s and 70s with family and friends will never be forgotten. A man who lived his faith, Bob always had time for people and his infectious smile, twinkling eyes and warm handshake will always be remembered. We would like to thank Carol and Ron Craig and Bev and Frank Kostuik for their longtime friendship and support and special thanks go out to all Dad's wonderful caregivers, nurses and doctors over the past few years. You are all angels here on earth. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave., Winnipeg, R2W 5M9 or the Lung Association of Manitoba (for COPD Research). The funeral will take place at St. John's Cathedral with the Very Rev Paul N. Johnson presiding at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
