DOROTHEA CROCKER
Date of Passing: Feb 25, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHEA CROCKER (nee HOSSACK) Dorothea passed away following a short illness on February 25, 2016, at Victoria Hospital. She was 95. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard and sisters Margaret and Elizabeth. She leaves behind her sons, David (Jeanette) and John; daughter, Thea; grandchildren, Heather (Tom), Alana (Joel), Janina (Kevin) and Elise and great-grandchildren, Eamon, Robin, Soren, Wren, Izaak and Bryn. Dorothea was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Garry at a time when cars were rare and ice for the ice box was delivered in a horse drawn wagon. She worked for a time as a receptionist in her father's medical office before volunteering to go overseas during the Second World War as a nurses' aid. While in England, she married Leonard Crocker, then serving with the RAF. Following the war, Leonard joined the RCAF. Dorothea adapted to the itinerant lifestyle of a military wife, living at air bases across Canada, but never lost her attachment to home. In retirement, they returned to their family base in Fort Garry, where Dorothea lived the rest of her life. Dorothea was a long time member of the congregation at St. Paul's Anglican Church and a staunch supporter of many charitable causes. She will be missed by her growing family and a sadly shrinking circle of close friends. Funeral service 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Drive, Winnipeg. A private interment will follow. It was a pleasure to meet your mother and to plant flowers for her to enjoy as she sat on her backyard swing. We will be thinking of you as you grieve the loss of your loved one. - Posted by: Harvey & Laura Schmidt (friends/gardners) on: Feb 27, 2016
