RUSSELL FRANK BODNAR Russell Frank Bodnar went from us gently on the morning of February 27, 2016, at the age of 67. Though his passing came unexpectedly, it was time for him to take the next step of his journey. Russell is survived by his "shining star," Dianne Bodnar (née Rauch); his children, Kristin and Jordan; his grandchildren, Pacey and Onyx; his brother, Doug (Phyllis, Andrea, and Jessica); and his sister-in-law, Sandra Mason (Lauren, Joelle, Fraser, and Graham). Russell was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 7, 1948 to Frank Bodnar and Adeline Mylymuk. He lived and loved every moment of his 35 year teaching career, especially the final 11 years spent with "his boys" from MacDonald Youth Services. Russell enjoyed spending time with others, and sharing his love for cars, golf, hockey, and life in general. He was a gentle soul whose passing will leave a hole in the lives of many friends and loved ones who knew him along the way. Russell would encourage all of us to move forward, to be kind to one another, and to inspire one another. A memorial is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. If friends so desire, donations to Cancer Care Manitoba in Russell's name are appreciated. RIP Mr B As a grade nine student new to PRC Mr Bodnar was a breath of fresh air. All the students liked him and he was well respected. His teaching approach was vastly different then most teachers, as he would interact at a much more personal level with his students. When you realize nature nurture Mr B was someone that influenced you as a human being in a Goodway. Some people are good role models Mr B fit that bill perfectly. - Posted by: Steve Labelle (Student) on: Dec 09, 2019

I have lost my life long friend. Although I moved From Winnipeg many years ago, Russ and I were able to always pick up as if no time had passed when we did communicate or get together. We shared our loves of music, golf, The Jets, Bombers and I will always have the memories of our endless hours spent with cars when we're young. A piece of my life is gone. Till we meet again, rest in peace. - Posted by: Doug Boychuk () on: Mar 23, 2016

I always looked forward to seeing him at the car shows and Fabulou 50s dance. I'll miss gabbing with him and sharing garlic sausage!!! What an incredible man he was. Always was kind and caring with a big smile. He will be missed . Our deepest condolences to his wife and family. - Posted by: Bruno Bevacqua (Friend and former colleague ) on: Mar 12, 2016

My condolences to the Bodnar family at this very sad time. Mr. Bodnar was my business teacher for three years. He was funny and easy going. Good stories on his times spent with the Guess Who in th 70's. He'd always try and teach us kids life lessons & keep us interested in sticking with school & getting an education- some classes we wouldn't even crack open a book because we were listening to his stories. I spoke with him a few years back to invite him to our HS reunion & he still remembered me 25 years later! I'll cherish that last conversation. You will be missed Mr.Bodnar ! - Posted by: Jasmine Flamand (former student) on: Mar 04, 2016

From installing a garage door opener for me, to just being a good friend/colleague at Louis Riel and PRC, Russ made life better for me and others around him. There were many years of good, fun times, though Track Nights were off limits to female staff, Russ and the others filled us in on what we missed. Russ, say "Hi" to Duve for us up there! - Posted by: Diane Lee (Friend, colleague) on: Mar 03, 2016

Saddened to hear of this loss. Russell was a good fella but his back checking was suspect. Sorry Russell the barbs won't stop lol. A myriad of Steeler memories in the dressing rooms on 40 below Sunday mornings. His pained expressions when Les showed up to telling me I made a nice save that game, Just one, never more, and I never found out which one it was. Ah well it was a 20 year run with him and his beloved team that I will remember forever. God bless you. - Posted by: Jim and Joanne Muller (friends) on: Mar 03, 2016
