HELEN ZINK On February 25, 2016, Helen Esther Zink (Grabke), 97, finally saw her Saviour face to face. Her children, Elvera (John) Martens, Harvey (Marilyn) Zink, Diane (Garry) Epp; her eight grandchildren, Mic (Dawn) Martens, Perry (Tara) Martens, Dana Jayne (Christopher) Dokkie, Glenn (Bonnie) Zink, Kent Zink, Shauna Zink, Cari (Darrell) Friesen, Tim (Amanda) Epp; and her 19 great-grandchildren, are grateful to God for cherished memories of our loving Mom, Nana and Great-Nana. Mom is predeceased by her husband, Edward in February, 2009 and her three brothers, Phillip, Irvin and Richard Grabke and her sister, Gertie Best. Mom was born on August 13, 1918, in Whitemouth, Manitoba, the eldest of five children but moved to Detroit during her school years. Returning to Whitemouth, she married and supported our dad in managing a mixed farm and raising a family. She, along with Dad, loved the Lord and guided us on our faith journeys at home and at church as she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir or played the piano. She loved laughter, games and social times which led to many gatherings at our house. In 1953, with the move to Winnipeg, she continued to bless us with her gardening, cooking and knitting, while managing a large department at Eaton's to help support her family. She continued to serve her Lord in choirs and leading Christian Women's Bible studies and leading the Women's ministry at Grant Memorial Church. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Celebration service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue. Interment will be prior at 10:30 a.m. at the Whiteshell Baptist Cemetery. A special thank you to the workers at Golden West Lodge. Many of you have brightened our lives as you cared for mom, especially through her difficult journey with blindness and pain. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grant Memorial Church or Whiteshell Baptist Church.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Mrs. Zink's door was always open. She loved music about her Lord. Two years ago was the last time I saw her and she was blind. She asked her Daughter and I to sing her an old hymn as a duet. Can't remember what we sang but we knew the words and she sang along with us. She liked to laugh so we had many happy times and she made me feel like one of her family. I thank God she is with her Saviour now and can see His beautiful world ! - Posted by: Minota Jersak (Friend of Elvera) on: Mar 05, 2016

  • Harv,Diane and Elvera, sorry for your loss, your mom was such a sweet lady. I count it a privilege to have known her and wish that I could have gotten another hug from her. - Posted by: John Raske (Harv's friend) on: Mar 02, 2016
