JULIA MARY MCCONKEY Julia Mary McConkey, lifelong teacher, sports enthusiast, accomplished traveller, and sneaky card player, passed away on March 2, 2016 at the age of 89. Julie is reunited with her beloved husband, George, siblings Frank, Millie, Jean, and Jack for the next chapter of her journey. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Bunny and Marg, children Jim (Susan), Bob (Alix), John (Heather), Barb (Greg) and grandchildren Darcy (Christine), Josh (Larissa), Sara (Jason), and Ainslie (Trevor), along with many other extended family and friends. Julie was born and raised in Stonewall, MB and has left her mark on the community. Starting as a mischievous child and graffiti artist at the old kilns, she later became a keen supporter of community arts and long-time member of the Quarry Choristers. In recognition of Julie's community involvement, the Town of Stonewall has requested a future street be named McConkey Street in her honour. Julie was a competitive curler, skater, and bridge player as well as a spirited golfer, hockey fan and cross country skier. If asked, Julie would tell you that her happiest moments were ones she spent with her family. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and encouraged them to be the best version of themselves. All are invited to celebrate Julie's memory on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stonewall United Church. A reception to mingle with family and friends will follow at the Oddfellows Hall. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Arthritis Society, Cancer Research, Stonewall United Church or to Stonewall Palliative Care.
