Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET OBEDZINSKI (née HUSAK) Peacefully on Tuesday March 15, 2016, after a long and brave battle with cancer, Margaret passed away with family by her side. Margaret was born on November 28, 1935 on the family farm in Fisher Branch, MB. In her early years, she trekked two miles through muddy roads and snow drifts to attend the one room Maidstone School. At age 14, she left home to bike six and a half miles to attend Fisher Branch College and Teulon Boarding School. From there she attended St. Benedict's Academy in Arborg, MB, where she met the love of her life, Harry. She graduated high school from Isaac Newton School in Winnipeg. She enjoyed going back home to the farm on weekends and holidays. Shortly after graduating, she was interviewed at the Employment Office and received three job offers. Margaret accepted a job at Winnipeg Electric for $95.00 per month. She stayed at home for several years to raise her twin babies, then worked as a security guard for Hudson's Bay, then Revenue Canada Taxation for 18 years until retirement. Margaret loved to spend time at the cottage of 40 years in Lakeshore Heights, fishing and picking blueberries and mushrooms. She also enjoyed bowling on a league with her neighbours and the Revenue Canada gang, with whom she went on to win the National Championship. Margaret was an avid traveler. Family vacations included Caribbean cruises, casino bus tours, trips to Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Hawaii, and South America, as well as many road trips all across Canada and the United States, her favourite being a trip to Costa Rica. Margaret is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry; son David (Shawn); grandchildren, Chantel (Irney), Amber, and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren Daegan, Shayna, and Roxton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents William and Tekla Husak, brother John, son Glen, and daughter Donna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of Margaret. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Cooke, the caring staff at Manitoba CancerCare and the Health Sciences Centre, and the home care staff. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m., with viewing one half hour prior to service time at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Brazier St. and Munroe Ave., with Father Janusz Maron officiating.
