ALICIA DE MENDIETA September 2, 1930 - March 18, 2016 It is with profound sadness we announce that on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 2:08 p.m. at Seven Oaks Hospital, while surrounded by her family, our beloved mother Alicia de Mendieta left this earth to meet her maker and be reunited with her husband of her youth, Ismael. Alicia will be remembered by her appreciation of God's beauty and her commitment to her creator. Through her journey, she enjoyed traveling, family time, and (as the matriarch of the family) always had words of wisdom to guide us, and a warm smile to ease our path; teaching us to love our God and those around us. Living by the verse "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them". Psalm 34:7. Though we can no longer see her, her instruction and loving kindness will be remembered and treasured in our hearts. Alicia is survived by her four daughters: Rosario Gochez (Carlos), Ana Mendieta (Leslaw), Martha Martinez (Fernando) y Nereyda Mendieta. Also Alicia was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Please join us on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Avenue, for the memorial service to celebrate the life of our amazing Mami Alicia. The interment will follow at Mennonite Memorial Gardens, 884 Symington Road, Winnipeg, MB. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
