VITTORIO BORELLI
Date of Passing: Mar 20, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVITTORIO BORELLI Peacefully, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vittorio Borelli on March 20, 2016. Vittorio was born in Sersale, Calabria, Italy, October 19, 1929. He was the youngest of ten siblings, and enjoyed a childhood filled with family, food, laughter, and love. Dad spent his early adult life working in the forestry industry with his older brother Bruno. In 1956, dad decided to join his older sister Assunta and her husband Giovanni (Titta) Masi who had moved to Winnipeg. Vittorio often worked several jobs and found success at a large furniture manufacturing company, Heartline Industries. Dad was promoted to foreman and spent much of his time assisting the many new Italian immigrants who were looking for employment. Many of his lifelong friendships originated from here and dad always spoke fondly of his days with Heartline. Dad met the love of his life Angela in 1964. They were quickly married and three children followed in 1965, 67 and 71. During this busy time, dad decided to seize an opportunity and purchased a hairdressing salon, Angela's Coiffure was born. Working side-by-side with his wife they become successful, well respected members of the community. In 1973 they added a corner-store to the neighborhood. Borelli's Groceries was a labour of love, and dad was proud to import food from his homeland to share with his new countrymen. These days were filled with many memories. Holidays and birthday parties were celebrated with pasta, homemade wine and more sponge cake than you can imagine! We were always taught that family was the most important thing in life, and we cherish those years growing up with our many cousins, sharing in each others success and being there in tough times to offer support. In 1985 life took an interesting turn, as another son was born. Having a new baby in the family was exciting for the entire family and brought dad much pride. Grandchildren began arriving in 1994 and dad transitioned into being the best Grandfather any child could ask for. He spoiled them relentlessly, and always made room for them in arms, on his shoulders, or in the seat of the riding mower. He took the time to show them his garden and he would stop whatever he was doing to dote on them or include them in his labours. Dad had many hobbies. He excelled at singing, and was a great dancer. He loved his early morning adventures in search of blueberries and mushrooms. He took pride in tackling many do-it-yourself projects as he looked after his home and property. He had a special connection with dogs, sensing his kindness they would follow him everywhere. His sense of humour was amazing and he could (and often did) repeat a story a dozen times, without losing any of the comic effect. Dad's appetite was legendary and he didn't turn down a meal very often. The last few years were tough on him, and after heart surgery he suffered a stroke in 2008. He lost much of his energy, vigour and love for life that made him the man he was. We are very grateful to the friends, neighbours and family that supported him through this time. No words can express our gratitude for the assistance with home repairs, and the visits to ensure that everything was alright. Taking him on shopping trips to Grand Forks, or simply sitting with him sharing a glass of wine, was often a highlight that he spoke of for many days. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Angela, his four children Maria Lowe, Raffaele (Katerina), Giovanni (Sandra), and Michael. Grandchildren Victoria, Gabriella, Samantha, Vittorio, Alessandro, and Giuliana who will miss him dearly. He is also is survived by his one remaining dear sister Assunta Masi as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Italy and sister-in-law Beatrice (Francesco) and their family. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings in Italy, his mother-in-law Maria Sallemi, niece Nina Caligiuri and brother-in-law Giovanni Masi. Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 30, at the Holy Rosary Church 510 River Avenue. Viewing 10:00 a.m, mass 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. Vittorio will be entombed at Holy Angel Mausoleum, Green Acres Cemetery. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

For the rest of my life I will search for moments full of you. In every glass of wine, pasta bowl, and in every Dean Martin song. Although you have been taken away from me, I feel your presence more than ever before. I love you so much Nonno, thank you for being the best grandpa a girl could ask for. Everyday when I see my dad I notice so many of your characteristics, and for that I am grateful. See you on the other side Nonno. - Posted by: Victoria Borelli (Granddaughter) on: Apr 10, 2016

As I am deeply saddened that I lost one of the male role models in my life almost a week ago, I am constantly trying to remind myself how truly blessed I am that I have the memories and the great experiences that I do with you to remember you by. They say if you miss someone it means you're lucky, because that means they gave you something worth missing, and my God, I miss you deeply and I love you unconditionally Nonno. I now have the greatest guardian angel looking over me which is a reassuring feeling and knowing I'll see you again someday makes it a little bit easier. but until that day comes, I'll be missing you always, helplessly, and terribly. I hope the red wine and pasta is great up there, because it's sure not the same down here without you. I hope the company you have is enjoying your singing and your radiant positivity because I'm sure missing it. may angels lead you in Nonno. - Posted by: Gabriella Borelli (granddaughter ) on: Mar 26, 2016

I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. My favorite memory of "Dad" was playing pool in the basement while enjoying a glass of his home made wine. Rest in peace. 3 Barb - Posted by: Barb Neufeld (Friend) on: Mar 24, 2016
