Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I only heard today at a toastmaster event of Larry's passing and was sorry to hear the news. Larry was a member of the voyageur toastmaster club when I joined in the 80s and I have fond recollections of his confidence behind the podium and his fun loving nature. He was a strong presence in the club and I recall twisting his arm to keep coming to our meetings when he wanted to move on! My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Shelley Morris (Toastmaster colleague) on: May 06, 2016

  • It was lovely to talk to you this evening on the eve of your brother's final good bye and to hear the eulogy you wrote first hand over the phone. I admired your brother, Lawrence, from childhood. As I recall he was larger than life! I remember coming home from visits to "Aunty Jessie\s" house more often than not sporting scrapes, and even think I tried the roller coaster in the back yard. you spoke about. In particular my impression; when he returned home from his service in the Navy; was that he was so tall, lean and had a smile as wide as the ship he served on. He was so sure of himself and swept his fiancĂ©, Anne, up in his arms at any given time. Outward boisterous affection was a welcome experience to my sheltered childhood. His Navy stories were exciting and funny and as I had never seen an ocean at that point my imagination soared with visions of waves, sailors, and ships. He made little of they fact that he had as rare blood type and that helicopters would retrieve him from Bonaventure for blood donations during his service.. Years later when I met my husband to be; Lawrence and Anne were welcoming to Gordon to the point where Gord and Lawrence compete at trading insurance stories. He has a special place in my heart. Best wishes for the service tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you all with a little tear in my eye. - Posted by: Carol Van Tighem (cousin) on: Mar 30, 2016

  • My deepest condolences for your loss, Anne, and to you and your family. I knew Larry back in the days of private, when he worked for Federated and I was at Continental. I subsequently worked with Larry several times while at MPI, going back to the old, Central Claims, and at several MPI offices, as our careers moved us throughout MPI. I always found Larry good to work with. I am sorry that I am unable to make it to the service. He will be missed.
