CLAYTON DEAN RUSSELL Passed away on March 30, 2016 at home. Clay grew up and lived in the North End of Winnipeg most of his life. He worked in the sign business for many years until health problems made that impossible. He loved to work with wood and did sculptures and painting as well. For the last few years his interest was with his model trains. He built his own module and went on from there. Predeceased by his beloved wife Leisa in 2015, his father Al in 2013, and his mother-in-law Patricia Freedy in 1996. Clay is mourned by mom Carol, brother Mark (Paulette), brother and best friend Lee (Rose), and brother Kent; also by sister and brother-in-law Laurrel and Brian, in-laws Jim and Marie Freedy in Boston, also nieces and nephews Alana and Garrett, Ryan (Laura), and Bob as well as great-nephews Carson and Owen, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. Thanks to Dr. Willows and Dr Haligowski for Clay's care. Also thanks to the Winnipeg Fire Department, Police and Medical Examiner's office for their kindness and compassion to him and his family. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no service. No flowers please, donations to Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated. Clay has crossed the Rainbow Bridge now and is free from pain. He is with those he loved that went before him. We will meet him again. 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I first time I met Clayton was at our Lake Home on a sunny warm day in July. When the sun went down he took off his sun glasses & I exclaimed "what beautiful blue eyes you have Clayton". Being an artist he saw beauty in the world & could capture it on canvas. I pray he can now experience the majesty & colors beyond Rainbow Bridge with his beloved Leisa by his side. - Posted by: Marie Van Laarhoven (James Freedy,s wife) on: Apr 12, 2016

  • Clayton loved his wife Leisa and the family pets. His artwork was fantastic and we enjoyed spending time with him and Leisa at the Lake House and in Boston. We will miss Clay. Rest in peace. Love you. -Brian & Lucy - Posted by: Brian VanLaarhoven (James Freedy's Step-Son) on: Apr 11, 2016
