I just learned of Betty's passing yesterday. Ironically, today would have been Betty's 100th birthday. In 1995, my parents attended the Victoria Day celebrations in Holland and met Betty. They quickly formed a friendship and soon Betty was travelling to Niagara Falls, Ontario to spend time with our family. Betty was a fascinating woman. She was a wonderful story teller and she led a very interesting life. She was an avid traveller and visited many destinations until she was no longer able. When she would come to visit us in Niagara, she was up for anything and had amazing endurance, particularly for shopping! My mother, sister and I visited Betty once in Winnipeg and she was a gracious host. She took us all over Winnipeg and of course we dined at "Step'n Out". She always spoke so fondly about her late husband, Herb. It was obvious they shared a very special love story. It is nice to think of them together again. Betty will be missed. My condolences to her family. Heather Mackenzie (MacRae) - Posted by: Heather Mackenzie ( MacRae) (friend) on: Apr 07, 2016

After a holiday last year I made it home for a play at PTE. The only row with any seats was the first one. I sat down and Betty turned to me and said.."I hope it doesn't bother you to sit beside me in a wheelchair. ," I said , of course not. She told me she hadn't seen a play for awhile as her health wasn't great and she was pretty much deaf. The play was a musical. I could tell she understood the words and felt the beat. At intermission I asked Betty if I could get her anything..something to drink? Chocolate? She declined. When I returned she told me about her years of service, and she was proud to have her art hung in a few galleries in the city. As the play went into act two..she just beamed. At the end of the play she told me she would like to see me again. she gave me her phone number IiI 😗😍😔 - Posted by: (Laurie Gydé (Met her at PTE last year in February 2015) on: Apr 02, 2016
