ANDY HORASKA It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Andy at his home on April 19, 2016 at 75 years of age. Andy is survived by his brother Rick (Maureen) and nephews Keith and James. He also leaves to mourn his extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents William (Bill) and Rose Horaska. Andy was born December 20, 1940 on a farm outside of Calder, Saskatchewan. After some time, the Horaska family moved to Winnipeg when his father Bill started working at Carter Motors. Home in the early years consisted of two main residences. The first was on Manitoba Avenue, during which brother Rick was born, and the second one was on Forest Park Drive in Garden City. Two of the schools that Andy attended were Aberdeen and Sisler (where he played on the school's football team). Later, he attended the University of Manitoba and Red River Community College. He was employed by CN/Via Rail from 1967 to 1995 (28 years). His many roles at Via included waiter, porter, and steward. He was recognized for his leadership skills and was promoted to Service Instructor, Officer, and Senior Manager of On Board Services. ln 1988 - 1990 he served as Supervisor of Customer Services in Vancouver, BC. Upon returning to Winnipeg, Andy enjoyed living downtown. He retired from Via Rail in 1995. Following his retirement, Andy spent his time volunteering for many organizations and events such as the Arthritis Society, CancerCare Manitoba, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Folklorama, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and the Winnipeg Jazz Festival. He also offered his services as a research consultant. We would like to thank Dr. John Mayba, all medical staff, and home care workers who provided care to Andy over the years. Cremation has taken place at Andy's request and a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. If you so wish, you may make a memorial donation to a charity of your choice. Andy, you will be truly missed, but greatly remembered for your concern for others and enriching our lives in so many ways. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • Awwww Andy, think of you often. You were a great friend and team member working tirelessly with the original Silver and Blue project team (Deborah, Pearl, and Wayne, and many more....). So many late nights and high pressure but what a reward with the implementation of this "in-house" developed passenger service which was a credit to you and all of the on board employees. Not often that a team can pull together the best of marketing and it's own staff to truly make a difference. Rest in peace my friend! - Posted by: Dawson and Lynda Wolk (Friends and Working Associate) on: Apr 23, 2016
