Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL TOONSTRA It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Paul on April 23, 2016 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was a beloved husband to Maureen for 47 years; devoted father to Jason (Shawna) and Paula (Colin) and most cherished Grandpa to his adored grandchildren, (Donavan, Coy, Carson, Aleda and Abigail). He was predeceased by his father and mother Wymer and Alida; brothers, Anthony and John; father-in-law and mother-in-law Oscar and Maria. Paul will be deeply missed by his sisters, Evelyn (John) and Joan (Bob); brother-in-law Bob (Rebecca, Martin, Alice) and extended family. Paul was born on April 4, 1944 in Teulon Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg at the age of six. He grew up in the Morse Place area and graduated from Miles Macdonell Collegiate. He worked for Unilever as a Sales Representative for 33 years, leaving the workforce in 2001 to enjoy 15 wonderful years of retirement. Paul was a gifted athlete who from a young age took every chance to be active and participate in sports. He enjoyed hockey, baseball, curling, volleyball, cycling and walking. Paul had the opportunity to play slo-pitch in retirement with the Flashbacks, both on the competitive Stealers team and in the house league. His involvement in sports led to many special memories and wonderful friends. What brought joy to Paul's life were the simple things like spending time with family, reading and enjoying the outdoors. Paul could be counted on when needed, exuded a genuine easy-going personality and a quiet strength to everyone in his life. This quiet strength and determination was demonstrated throughout his eight year battle with cancer. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. R. MacMahon, Dr. V. Dao, Dr. A. Ponnampalam, Dr. T. Hiebert and nurses at CancerCare and Palliative Care for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Brenda and Jim, Ian and Winn for their support and kindness during a difficult time. No formal service is planned in accordance to his wishes. For those wishing to honour Paul's memory, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9. To the world you were one, but to us you were the world'
