HELEN CECILIA MENZIE B.A., M. Ed. November 22, 1924 - April 24, 2016 On Sunday, April 24, 2016, on her favourite day of the week, our beautiful mother left this world to be with the angels in Heaven. She was a gift to all who met her and her family who loved her so dearly. She will be missed. Mom will be greatly missed by her loving daughter Pamela and son-in-law Garth Ball, and her caring son Gordie. Also missing her greatly will be her grandchildren Bronwyn Boge (Adam), Brendan Ball (Kristyn), Lauren Menzie and Duncan Menzie; as well, she will be missed by her three great-grandchildren Austin and Brayden Boge and Lochlan Ball. She lived a long life and always saw the good in everyone. She was a kind and loving woman, always positive, strong with a gentle disposition. Our mom had a wonderful sense of humour and she strongly believed in the value of education. Someone who lived her values, our mom was a treasure to all those fortunate enough to have known her. Her family was her joy. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Drive, Windsor Park. Interment in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes or CancerCare Manitoba. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Helen Menzie has been a good friend to my mom during their residence at the Fort Garry Place. She was kind and gentle and had such an amazing positive influence on everyone who interacted with her. She will be missed by my mom (Ada) and also by many friends at the FGP. Our sincere condolences to the family. Barb B. - Posted by: Barb Boucher (Friend) on: May 02, 2016

  • I met Helen in 1976 when I started to teach at Wellington Elementary School. She was always kind and gentle but she could be surprisingly firm even in her look if someone was taking advantage of someone else. Our classes were next to each other in the open area so we shared many chats; we also travelled together on the bus from downtown to school and it was always easy to confide in her. She was one of the persons who would never say a harsh word about anyone. Her dry sense of humour made for enjoyable conversation. I saw her when she came to a Wellington Staff alumni lunch and she gave me some advice which I always quote and have followed: if as a woman I have to go out make sure I put on my lipstick, wear a smile and out the door. I will miss just knowing that I will not meet her at any gathering. A dedicated teacher, a loving generous mother and faithful cheerful friend we will miss her. - Posted by: Olive Nimblett (colleague and friend) on: Apr 30, 2016

  • I never met Pam's mom but heard many nice things about her from her daughter when I met her on our trip to Israel. Helen was very interested in everything that Pam was seeing and doing. She wasn't going to be left behind on anything going on. Great way to live. I am sorry for the emptiness that comes when our loved ones move on. I will always be interested in hearing stories of your mom Pam. It is one way they do live on. Great memories. - Posted by: Claudette (Friend of Pam's) on: Apr 27, 2016

  • Helen's beautiful smile made her look forever young. If we each follow her example and smile more often, the world will be a brighter place. - Posted by: Donna Wakeford (Family friend) on: Apr 27, 2016

  • I recently met Helen at our coffee group at Fort Garry Place. She was a lovely lady and a pleasure to chat with. My sincere condolences go to Pam and the whole family. I'm sorry that I can't make the service on Friday. - Posted by: Liz Mitchell (recent friend of Helen) on: Apr 26, 2016
