ANGELINA FIORINO (nee CARVELLI) August 8, 1935 - April 24, 2016 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Angelina Fiorino on April 24, 2016, at the Misericordia Place Personal Care Home, at the age of 80. Left to forever remember her is her daughter Anna, son-in-law Michael Manicotto, grandchildren Natalie and Ellen Gervino-Curry (Nic). She is eternally remembered by her brothers Salvatore Carvelli (Pat), and Biagio Carvelli (Brenda), sister Giuseppina Guercio, and her in-laws Giuseppe Fiorino (Maria) and Angela Richichi (Raffaele). She was predeceased by her loving husband Michele, eldest daughter Elvira, parents Luigi and Anna Maria Carvelli; sister/brothers-in-law Lidia Fiorino, Ettore/Rosetta Milinazzi and Luigi Guercio. Angelina was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy on August 8, 1935. At the age of 15 Angelina opened up her own hair salon in her home town and met her future husband and one true love, Michele, during his family visits to San Giovanni in Fiore. Once they were engaged, Michele immigrated to Canada to find work and then in 1956 Angelina joined him in Winnipeg where they married on January 12, 1957. Angelina attended Scientific School for one year to get her diploma in hairdressing and worked at Mario's Hair Salon. In 1957, Angelina and Michele opened their own beauty salon called "Michele's Hairstyling" on Corydon Avenue. Angelina took great pride and pleasure in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Her happiest moments were being with family and friends. She loved celebrations and get-togethers and enjoyed going to the opera with Michele. Her fondest memories were at the cottage at Falcon Lake, trips to Mexico, Hawaii and back to her home land Italy. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Apple Tree Lane MP2 Unit at Misericordia Place and to all the doctors, nurses, aides and staff who were there for Angelina and our family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Condolences will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Private Entombment will take place at the Holy Angel Mausoleum located at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, No. 1 Highway East at Navin Road. • So sorry for your loss. God Bless - Posted by: Annette Monaco (Family) on: May 04, 2016

  • My family, the Carbones, and I have a treasure trove of memories of Angelina and the Carvellis, as well as her husband's family, the Fiorinos. Our ties have deep roots by virtue of the fact that we are from the same town in Italy - San Giovanni in Fiore. In Canada where the circumstances of life in a new country with a different language, customs and values can create tremendous strain and can test one's ability to adapt, we found comfort and solace in our paesani (people of our hometown) such as Angelina, her mom Anna Maria, sister Pina, brothers Salvatore and Biagio and of course husband Michele and daughters Elvira and Anna. Angelina was a vibrant person who exuded warmth and affection and by virtue of her easy manner was able to nurture meaningful relationships. She had great inner strength and a joy for life that was an integral part of her personality to the very end. This is all the more remarkable when one considers the many trials and tribulations that her life was subjected to especially in the last several years. On behalf of myself, my wife Anna, my parents Rocco and Vittoria, and my sister Cathy and her family, I would like to offer my condolences to Anna and Michael, and to Angelina's siblings Pina, Salvatore, Biagio and their respective families. - Posted by: Stan Carbone (Friend) on: May 02, 2016
