FRANCOISE CAMERON
Date of Passing: May 05, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANCOISE CAMERON (née PLUVINAGE) On May 5, 2016 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Françoise Cameron, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother "Mamie" peacefully slipped away. At her bedside were her husband Gordon, and children Geneviève and William. Françoise was born at "Fourgat", Manglieu, France. While on exchange at the University of Manitoba in 1973, she met Gordon. They were married in Lezoux, France in 1976. In 1980, they settled in West Kildonan, Gordon's home town. She is survived by Gordon and their children Geneviève Sprenger (Wes) and William Cameron (Ludivine), grandchildren Luke and Mina Sprenger, and Timothy Cameron, and in France, sister Christiane Darcis and brother Jean Louis Pluvinage and their families. While raising her family, Françoise taught French part-time in many different situations (University of Winnipeg, Alliance Française, M.I.E.L.S.). During this time, she also completed her M.A. at the University of Manitoba in French literature. In 1999 she returned to school and trained at Red River College as a library technician. She was hired by Seven Oaks School Division in 2001 and for the next 10 years was librarian in two schools, Ecole Belmont and Victory School. She loved this work and the variety that came with alternating between her French and English libraries. In 2011 she retired early to help care for her grandson Luke when Geneviève returned to work. While in treatment after her first cancer operation in 1996, Françoise was struck by the spirit and attitude of the children who at that time received their chemotherapy in the same room as the adults. She called them the little angels and felt they were an inspiration to the grown-ups. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Children's Hospital Foundation or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (specify childhood cancer). Special thanks to everyone we met with the Palliative Care program, both at home and at St. Boniface. The wonderful care that Françoise received was a comfort to us all. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg.
