Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD KUBISH January 3, 1940 - May 14, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we are saddened to announce the passing of Donald Edward Kubish on May 14, 2016. He passed peacefully with his loving wife, Virginia, and his goddaughter, Merna, at his side in East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour. Don was born on January 3, 1940 in Vancouver, BC. He was the only child of Nick and Isabel (nee Keilback) Kubish. He spent his childhood on the family farm south of Beausejour. After he left school, Don worked in construction and later at the Polaris factory. In 1966, he began working in the transportation department at AECL in Pinawa and retired after 32 years of service. Don married his soulmate and best friend, Virginia Okolita, on January 11, 1969. They were blessed with a wonderful marriage of 47 years. They shared a love of dancing and travelled far and wide to attend old-time dances and built many friendships along the way. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, gardening, watching sports on TV, making his own wine and sausage and spending weekends at the lake. Winters were spent travelling to Mexico, Hawaii, Cuba and Europe to name a few. Don was a loving, compassionate man. He knew the value of hard work and had earned the respect and love of many. He was community minded and was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Beausejour. Don is survived by his loving wife Virginia, goddaughter Merna and her husband Kevin, his much loved cousin Pat and her husband Joe, and many, many other cousins, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Isabel and Nick Kubish, parents-in-law, Fred and Mary Okolita, and Virginia's son, Leslie. Unfortunately, Don suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the last several years of his life. Many thanks to Dr. Van Rensburg and the staff in the Rose and Shamrock units at East Gate for their care and compassion. Should you so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, East Gate Lodge Recreation Department, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0, or a charity of your choice. When I was young, I spent many a summer with Nick and Isobel and Donald on the farm. Donald was away working a lot as I got older. I always ran into him in Selkirk and we had many great talks. Sorry to hear he had alzheimers. Such a nice guy. Donald would always say come to the old time dances. I should have went. My heart goes out to Virginia who has lost a very special person. The kubish and Kielback families share this lose with her I am sure. One door closes and another opens. I am sure that Donald is with auntie Isabel and uncle Nick watching down us in our sorrow. Dear Virginia, Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this sad time. We will miss Donald's smile and his love for family. We hope that you can take comfort from faith that Donald is at peace in God's arms now. His spirit can rejoin those who went before like Uncle Nick and Aunt Isabel and my mom and dad and others who he loved. In the mantle of God's love the burden of Alzheimer will be gone. Don and Virginia were part of the founding group that started the twice yearly Beausejour Old Tyme Dances at the Beausejour/ Brokenhead Rec Hall in Beausejour. These dances were sold out for many years and still continue to entertain many to this day. Don was a very sociable man and hard to beat at crib. We enjoyed the times we spend together. Virginia, please accept our most sincere condolences during this sorrowful time. May all the wonderful memories of your life together comfort you now and always. With sincere sympathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Kathy & Bill - Posted by: Kathy & Bill Fecio (Friends) on: May 16, 2016

Virginia Our condolences on the passing of Don. May u take comfort in the scriptures saying " Jehovah will resserect all those in memorial tombs " know you are thought of at this sad time. Don and I went to school together, his family lived down the road from us, they would give me a ride to school in back of their truck especially on cold winter days, when bitterly cold I and another neighbor would squeeze into the truck cab with his father and Don.i was so thankful for the ride on such cold manitoba winters. Living here in Surrey,B.C. the cold is now a distant memory, but thoughts are warm for the friends there. Leona keep strong.
