DEMITRA SOTIRIOU SARANTOPOULOS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the age of 68, peacefully with her family, friends, children and grandchildren by her side. She will be dearly missed, her memory cherished by many, and lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, Peter, her children, John (Connie), Angela (Phil) and Georgia (Vasili), brothers Greg (Arasmia), Nick (Haitho), Bill (Betty), and sister Maria, brothers and sisters-in-law Georgia, Adrianna, Kyriakos, Vicki, Dina and George, nine grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Demitra was predeceased by her parents Andreas and Georgia Sotiriou, brothers Mihali and Theodore, and brothers-in-law, John, Bob and George. Demitra was born in Scoura, Sparta, Lakonias, Greece on January 24, 1948. As a young adult she worked in a Medical Clinic as a Practical Nurse until she immigrated to Canada in 1967. She met her husband Peter in Winnipeg and the two were married in 1968. Demitra was deeply devoted to family, especially her three children working tirelessly, and endlessly. She emphasized the importance of hard work, continued education, and community service. Demitra loved writing and poetry. There was always a notepad in her purse and she would always be writing down her thoughts and writing poems. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially enjoyed their conversations at the local Tim Horton's with her quick wit and good natured humour, contagious smile, yet occasionally juxtaposed poignant rebuttals. We would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba for all of their support and wonderful care that they provided. A special thank-you to all of Demitra's friends and neighbours for helping her as much as they could. Further additional thank you to close friend Olivia, Sylvana, Linda, and Eleni. Angels providing assistance. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 2255 Grant Avenue. If family or friends so desire, donations to the Grace Hospital Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba can be considered. Please forgive any omissions, may God bless her precious soul, and may her memory be eternal.
