VICTOR JANZEN 1959-2016 Vic Janzen, 56, passed away on May 17, 2016. He faced his diagnosis of AML leukemia the same way he faced his life - with realism, determination, hard work and focusing on achieving his goals. Vic's life, integrity and his values will be cherished by his wife Elly; children, Aaron and Danae; his mother Helen and his sister Ellie; and many other relatives and close friends. He is predeceased by his father, Jakob Janzen Vic was born October 11, 1959 and was raised in North Kildonan. In his early teens, Vic took an avid interest in the family business, Janzen Concrete, where he developed a special bond with his dad. Afterwards, he received a Business Administration diploma at Red River College and enjoyed the work and relationships he developed at Campbell's, Ralston Purina, Direct Transport and Custom Castings. Vic grew up spending his summers boating and camping at the lake and carried this tradition on with his own family. He was a very competent and safe boat operator, however, he did have a knack for breaking props. We loved sharing these good times with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling and the great memories we made as a family in places like Mexico, California, Florida and New York. Vic valued the many friends that he was blessed with. He especially looked forward to Saturday morning coffee with the boys at Mountain Bean. Every and any topic was up for debate with much good natured heckling, sarcasm and laughter. Vic had a wide range of interests, was an avid sports fan and was especially excited to have the Jets come back. He had a keen interest in interior decorating and managed the building of our family home. Vic's Type A personality and attention to detail were reflected in everything he did. Vic loved his family and always had our best interests at heart. There was nothing he wouldn't do to protect, encourage and advocate on our behalf. He was tough, but fair, expecting only our best effort as he would always match that with his own. We will miss his integrity, strong opinions, sense of humor and love of doing the right thing - and doing it well. Special thanks to Dr. Szwajcer and the entire medical team - they have a difficult job and handle it with honesty, professionalism and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation (GD 6) or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada's Prairies Region (LLSC). Memorial Service to be held at Eastview Community Church, 3500 De Vries Avenue on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Elly and Family; Our deepest condolences on Vic's passing. Vic was one of the most classy, caring, and deeply passionate ( no matter what the subject matter ) person I've ever had the privilege to know. Vic's big laugh and his willing to throw himself into something that mattered to him was beyond approach, and something I shall always remember. Vic was all about integrity and the morality on things going on around him meant everything to him. Vic had a wonderful sense of humor and could joke with the best of us when the moment presented itself. Our thoughts are with you all at this very difficult time.
